Test 2014: Kreidler Dice SL 29er 1.0
A technically successful but somewhat sluggish touring 29er with comfortable geometry. Weaknesses in detail prevent a better overall judgement.

Kreidler offers its Dice SL 29er in three equipment variants up to 2000 euros - but only in three frame sizes. At 2157 grams, the frame weighs a whopping 900 grams more than the carbon chassis of the Rock Machine. The riding position is very comfortable and touring orientated due to the high front. However, the Dice SL has weaknesses in some details: It lacks a second bottle cage and a chainstay protector. In addition, the TS8 fork is very stiff and bottoms out early on steep terrain. The inexpensive Schwalbe tyres also quickly fail on loose ground and damp terrain. Shortcomings in the paint quality and workmanship cost the Kreidler further points. Unfortunately, the handlebar remote control for locking the fork was also defective. Setup tip for the fork: inflate to around 20 PSI more than specified in the air pressure table.

Conclusion: Visually successful but somewhat sluggish touring 29er with comfortable geometry. Weaknesses in detail prevent a better overall judgement.

PLUS Very smooth handling, front thru axle
MINUS Heaviest bike, heaviest frame, favourable rubber compound for tyres

The screw-on grips in handlebar tape style are rather unsuitable on the Kreidler Dice. The smooth surface offers little grip and wears out quickly.Photo: Georg Grieshaber The screw-on grips in handlebar tape style are rather unsuitable on the Kreidler Dice.
