At under 3000 euros, the Jealous Hybrid is the most affordable e-bike in our big touring bike buying guide. This is absolutely atypical, as you usually have to plan a higher budget for E-MTBs due to the high demands of off-road riding. It should usually be at least 3500 euros so that you can rely on high-quality suspension forks from Fox and Rockshox and a dropper seatpost ex works.
A large battery, quality equipment and a dropper post ex works: the fact that Radon manages to do this for less than € 3,000 is down to the motor. The Bosch CX installed is not the brand new CX5 model but the slightly older CX4 Smart System. Radon has therefore drastically reduced the prices of the Jealous hybrid models on a permanent basis and can also capitalise on the advantage of direct sales. Incidentally, prospective customers do not have to worry about functional disadvantages due to the older engine. Last year, the Bosch CX4 with high performance and excellent modulation in the EMTB motor test. But the new Bosch is just that little bit better.
In practice, the Radon benefits noticeably from its high-quality equipment. The clear highlight is the sensitive Fox fork. Radon also specifies high-quality XT parts including the powerful XT four-piston brakes and a practical telescopic dropper post. This pays off particularly well off-road.
The good Fox fork brings reliable composure to the steering off-road. Only on extremely rough trails would you want an expensive, heavy and high-maintenance fully. With the wide gear range, the Shimano XT brakes and the Kiox display, there is hardly anything to criticise about the Jealous Hybrid. The geometry is designed for a smooth ride. As a result, the Radon is not ultimately manoeuvrable, but it still conveys a lot of confidence even at high speeds.
Important off-road: The saddle can be lowered at the touch of a button for more freedom of movement. This takes the fear out of steep descents. The Schwalbe tyres are grippy and roll well. In combination with the huge battery, very long tours with many metres of elevation gain are possible. Typical e-mountainbike: the riding position is sporty, the handling provides stability. Downhill, we would have liked a little more comfort from the stiff frame. Fixed lighting would also not be a mistake on a touring e-MTB.
Radon lives up to its reputation for value for money! Thanks to direct sales and a 2024 motor, the Jealous Hybrid has both a large battery and a remarkably good spec at a favourable price. Not the ultimate in comfort, but the smooth riding characteristics are impressive. - Adrian Kaether, Test Manager MYBIKE
E-mountainbikes, especially fullys, are actually really expensive due to the complex technology and the high demands placed on the off-road equipment. We show three good and affordable models for different tastes. Plus a lightweight carbon bike with a dream weight for under 5000 euros.
The package Decathlon has put together here is unbelievable. Our colleagues at BIKE gave the E-Expl 520S, which costs just 2999 euros, an unqualified recommendation. The chassis and motor were particularly impressive. Only the weak brakes should be upgraded.
Fully, but suitable for everyday use? That's also possible. Like the Rockrider above, the Tero X from Specialized also received a recommendation in BIKE magazine for its good riding characteristics and wide range of use. At 3400 euros, the price is extremely low for an SUV fully.
Cube's AMS Hybrid One44 weighs less than 19 kilograms, but with a full carbon frame and reduced Bosch SX motor, it is also a real sports machine. Instead of motor power, the emphasis here is on riding fun. The price of 4999 euros is low for a light e-MTB made of carbon fibre.
