With the Rose PDQ AL, the Bocholt-based mail order company is reviving the good old days. Times when hardtails for around 1000 euros were a firm fixture of MTB culture. Despite fair prices starting at 1199 euros, the Rose PDQ AL doesn't have to do without modern features such as 29-inch wheels, twelve-speed gears and all-round geometry with 120 millimetres of suspension travel. A weekend trip or your first big trail tour? The affordable hardtail with aluminium frame and functional equipment should be able to do everything. The affordable hardtail should therefore appeal to a wide range of buyers. We took a closer look at the new Rose PDQ ("Pretty Damn Quick") made of aluminium.
At first glance, the Rose PDQ AL hardly shows its favourable price. The weld seams of the aluminium frame are smoothed, and the cable routing in the main frame is internal. The new hardtail comes with 120 millimetres of suspension travel on the fork and 2.4 inch wide MTB tyres from Schwalbe for off-road excursions. The fact that these are "only" from the affordable Performance series is due to the slim price tag. Hydraulic disc brakes from Shimano bring the Rose PDQ AL reliably to a halt. Twelve-speed gears from the Shimano Deore or the new, mechanical Sram Eagle 70 transmission series offer the necessary gear range for hilly tours. Rose sees the PDQ AL explicitly as a mountain bike for beginners who don't want to commit themselves to one area of use and want to keep their options open. Everything should be allowed - even biking in trainers and jeans...
A bottle cage mount and a mounting point for tools or a spare tube increase the range of the new Rose hardtail. Thanks to mounting options for a rear mudguard, a pannier rack and a kickstand, the PDQ AL can also be upgraded to an everyday hero for the journey to school, work or the shops. On trails, the retractable telescopic seat post of the 1499 euro model scores points. Rose offers the entry-level MTB in one colour variant, two equipment lines and five frame sizes. Sizes XS and S roll on small 27.5 inch wheels, while the frame sizes M, L and XL have large 29 inch wheels. The all-round aluminium talent is not light: 14.3 and 14.9 kilos respectively are on the scales. If you like it lighter, choose the Rose PDQ with carbon frame. Prices start from 1999 euros.
