We chose the hardtail mountain bikes for our test because they are inexpensive and flexible to use. They are designed to make mountain biking fun for beginners and at the same time appeal to advanced riders thanks to their simple and robust construction. To find out who the Rose Bonero 1 is recommended for, we put it through the BIKE test together with six other hardtails.
Compared to the other test bikes, the range of use of the Rose Bonero even extends into the all-mountain range. At 140 millimetres, it has the longest suspension travel, the slackest head angle and the longest reach. For more grip and comfort, the mail-order company has also given its trail hardtail wide and chunky Conti tyres. The telescopic seatpost offers the largest adjustment range with 180 millimetres of travel. All in all, this makes for a very safe and fun ride, even when the trail becomes more demanding and the going gets fast downhill. The Rockshox fork responds perfectly and provides usable suspension travel. However, we would have liked a more effective damping control to calm down the lively response behaviour.
Uphill, the riding position is ultra-modern. The combination of a short front end and steep seat angle places the rider compactly and with a lot of pressure on the front wheel in the bike. However, the bike accelerates sluggishly due to the heavy wheels. The Rose also tops the list for overall weight. However, control and traction on the climbs are convincing across the board.
In demanding terrain, the Rose Bonero 1 is unrivalled in this test field. Unfortunately, the high weight limits the range of action of the trail hardtail.
