The good and light frame (1566 grams in M) has not changed since last year. This retains the agile, manoeuvrable riding impression. Even on the trail, the XTC with its short wheelbase (1070 mm) and short chainstays (436 mm) doesn't show any weakness and winds its way round even the tightest bends. Giant has only tweaked the componentry: SRAM components now tension the chain over the sprockets while the overall weight remains the same. Instead of the SLX/XT mix, there's only a groupless crankset and undefined X7 levers. However, the change from the Fox fork to the Reba RL with thru-axle doesn't reduce the riding fun. As in the previous year, the XTC loses three points due to the lack of space for a second bottle cage.
PLUS Agile and manoeuvrable handling, lightest frame, balanced geometry
MINUS Lockout handlebar lever, sintered brake pads
Tuning tip Lighter tyres and tubes; quick-release saddle clamps
Conclusion: Handling winner and driving pleasure guarantor with throttled equipment
