In 2016, Trek introduced the Procalibre hardtail with IsoSpeed joint one. In its first season, the articulated carbon hardtail was not available for less than 3000 euros, with the frame alone costing 2400 euros. For the 2021 model year, the Americans are presenting the successor to the race bike. The IsoSpeed bearing, which decouples the top tube and seat tube from each other so that the seat tube can absorb shocks and impacts, remains untouched. Only a small rubber seal on the inside is new. But unlike in previous years, the Procaliber series cheaper. There will not be a high-end model beyond the 5000 euro mark. For sporty marathon racers, Trek has developed the short-stroke Supercalibre with 60-millimetre rear trianglewhich starts where the new Procaliber leaves off in terms of price. However, you can get the 1595 gram OCLV carbon frame (BIKE measurement) in the Procaliber 9.5 for less than 1800 euros.
Trek has adapted the geometry of the new Procaliber to the Supercaliber. The result: a longer reach (+ 8 mm), a slacker head angle (68.75 degrees), shorter chainstays (432 mm) and a steeper seat angle (73.8 degrees) than the previous model. The developers have also given the Knock Block headset more freedom of movement. Where the handlebars previously stopped at 58 degrees, you can now turn four degrees further in tight hairpin bends. As tyres and rims on cross-country bikes are getting wider and wider, the new Procaliber can accommodate tyres up to 2.4 inches wide. All four models will be available exclusively with single drive. Trek also equips the Procaliber with a tubeless set-up ex works. Bontrager wheels with the XR2 tyre in 2.2 inch width are used in all models. The rear derailleur is attached to a UDH derailleur hanger.
Trek offers the new Procaliber in a total of six frame sizes from SM to XXL, all sizes roll on 29-inch wheels. Workshop-friendly cable routing with guides inside the frame should make changing cables quick and easy. If you want to retrofit a dropper post, you can also route the cable inside the frame.
The cheapest Procaliber model goes by the abbreviation 9.5 and is currently available for 1754 euros thanks to the VAT reduction. The Procaliber 9.8 for a regular price of 3500 euros marks the end of Trek's hardtail range. The 10.27-kilo bike (BIKE measurement/size LG) comes with a Fox 32 SC Performance fork, Shimano XT drivetrain and brakes and 30-millimetre-wide Bontrager Kovee Elite carbon wheels. The frameset of the comfort hardtail costs 1500 euros individually.
