Hardtails are becoming less important due to ever more efficient and lighter race bikes. Nevertheless, the minimalist mountain bikes without suspension at the rear have a proverbial fan base. Stefan Loibl is undoubtedly one of the advocates of this somewhat outdated type of bike. He actually wanted to throw himself and his endurance test bike into the marathon fray in 2020. But the planned long-distance races fell victim to the coronavirus contact restrictions.
Instead of the Test-winning hardtail from BIKE 1/20 Instead of chasing over signposted race courses, he explored the neglected corners of his home region on the 8.6-kilo bike. The light-footed acceleration of the carbon wheels, which our online boss had of course converted to tubeless, was particularly noticeable on the constant ups and downs in the Hallertau region. A low air pressure of around 1.6 bar breathed a little more damping into the stiff carbon frame with its mediocre comfort values.
The test costs 0.99 euros. Why not free of charge? Because quality journalism has a price. In return, we guarantee independence and objectivity. This applies in particular to the tests in BIKE. We don't pay for them, but the opposite is the case: we charge for them, hundreds of thousands of euros every year.
