BH has updated its gravel bike. The new model, the BH GravelX, has a lighter frame, greater tyre clearance and suspension at the rear. An interesting detail is that the off-road bike is listed with a twelve-speed version of the mechanical Shimano GRX, which is apparently about to be released.

Compared to the previous model, BH is positioning the new GravelX in the still young category of race gravel bikes. To achieve this, the Spanish bike manufacturer has - BIKE recently made a name for itself with its E-MTB iLynx - The frameset has been aerodynamically optimised, including by adopting the Air Bow fork from the Ultralight and Aerolight road models. According to the manufacturer, the frame, which uses tensile carbon fibres from the MTB sector, weighs 1050 grams.

Although the BH GravelX would be one of the lighter gravel bikes on the market, BH installs a heavy damping element on the rear triangle for more suspension comfort. The "Smooth Riding System" is similar to the Kingpin element on the Cannondale Topstone and is designed to smooth out minor bumps on gravel tracks. The suspension travel is between three and five millimetres, depending on the rider's weight. The maximum tyre clearance is 45 millimetres - however, the BH GravelX is fitted ex works with relatively treadless 40 millimetre tyres from Hutchinson.

Storage compartment in the down tube

Despite its sporty concept, the new BH GravelX sits slightly more upright than its predecessor. System integration is almost standard on fast gravel bikes. A storage compartment for a puncture repair kit, which BH has integrated on the underside of the down tube, is now a standard feature on off-road bikes. It is also possible to retrofit a tool box underneath the bottle cage and a rear light can be attached to the seat post using a magnet.
