Bikes with the new Avinox M2S super motor are very popular. But which models are really convincing? We have summarised the results of our tests from Amflow to Pivot and Propain to YT Industries.

Topics in this article

Unprecedented power, low weight, slim design and discreet background noise: The Avinox M2S sets a new benchmark for e-MTB motors and raises many e-bikes to a new level. As a result, there are countless new bikes with this super motor. But even the best motor is of little use if the bike it's fitted to is no good. We have already tested many Avinox e-MTBs. In this article, we provide an overview and summarise our findings. The detailed test of the Avinox M2S can be found here in the link.

Amflow PX Carbon Pro

  • Suspension travel: 160/150 mm
  • Wheel size: 29/27.5 inch, optional 29/29
  • Motor: Avinox M2S
  • Battery: 700 Wh, permanently installed
  • Frame material: Carbon
  • Weight: 21.7 kg (BIKE measured value, size L)
  • Price: 9999 Euro

The new Amflow PX Carbon performs better than its predecessor in all respects on rough terrain. However, it is heavier, somewhat slower and more complex than the "original Amflow". For 10,000 euros you get a really good bike here, but it now has to compete with a wide selection of new Avinox bikes. It has lost some of its absolute wow effect. Nevertheless, the mix of low weight and massive power remains impressive. The many adjustment options for the geometry (40 configurations!) make the bike very versatile, but also complex. When set up with long chainstays, the bike seemed much more balanced than when delivered with a short rear end. Unfortunately, our test bike was annoying with various rattling noises.

Raymon Tarok Ultimate

  • Suspension travel: 160/150 mm
  • Wheel size: 29/27.5 inch
  • Motor: Avinox M2S
  • Battery: 700 Wh, permanently installed
  • Frame material: Carbon
  • Weight: 20.6 kg (BIKE measured value, size L)
  • Price: 9999 Euro

Impressive weight, equally sleek looks and the most powerful and best electric motor on the market: the Raymon Tarok Ultimate has several superlatives up its sleeve. No other bike with Avinox M2S was this light on the BIKE scales - and by some distance. On the trail, the Tarok impresses with very balanced but surprisingly sporty handling characteristics. Light-footed and powerful at the same time, it invites experienced bikers in particular to dance fast on the trails. The low weight is clearly noticeable in the riding behaviour, the Tarok is fun and agile. The riding position is nicely integrated with a low bottom bracket and high front and the rear suspension also works very well, with a rather sporty character. Absolutely successful!

Pivot Shuttle AMP'd Pro

  • Suspension travel: 160/150 mm
  • Wheel size: 29/27.5 inch
  • Motor: Avinox M2S
  • Battery: 800 Wh, permanently installed
  • Frame material: Carbon
  • Weight: 22.5 kg (BIKE measured value, size L)
  • Price: 11999 Euro

The Pivot Shuttle AMP'd Pro impresses across the board: a versatile trail all-rounder for ambitious bikers who want to step on the gas off-road. It skilfully fills the gap between trail and enduro and can really take a beating. And significantly more than most other bikes with the same suspension travel. Because the rear suspension is a force to be reckoned with. The Shuttle AMP'd combines riding enjoyment with a lot of power. It may not be the lightest Avinnox bike, but it still remains emphatically fun and light-footed in its handling. The biggest downer is the extremely high price - for many people, the Shuttle AMP'd might not be an option despite its qualities.

Propain Ekano 3 AL

  • Suspension travel: 160/150 (optionally also 170/160 mm)
  • Wheel size: 29 inch (optionally also Mullet)
  • Motor: Avinox M2S
  • Battery: 800 Wh, permanently installed (optionally also 600 Wh)
  • Frame material: Aluminium
  • Price: 8641 Euro

With its robust aluminium chassis, the Ekano 3 AL is no lightweight, but shines as a powerful all-rounder for rough terrain. The chassis is fully convincing and the design is absolutely bombproof. Unfortunately not a bargain despite the mail order concept. But the Ekano 3 AL is a strong bike when reserves and durability are required. The modular concept is unique: you can put together the equipment according to your personal preferences. Not only do you have the choice of an enduro or trail version (170/160 or 160/150 mm), but also a mullet or 29er. You can also choose the battery size from 600 or 800 Wh. So far, we have been able to test the trail version with high-quality equipment and 29er set-up and can say: even with the narrower stroke, the bike can take on tough trails and descents. In terms of character, the bike is designed more for riding strength, safety and swallowing capacity than for particularly light-footed handling.

YT Industries Decoy X Launch Edition

  • Suspension travel: 170/160 mm
  • Wheel size: 29/27.5 inch
  • Motor: Avinox M2S
  • Battery: 800 Wh, permanently installed
  • Frame material: Aluminium
  • Weight: 25.4 kg (manufacturer's specification)
  • Price: 8499 Euro

Get on and feel good is the motto of the YT Decoy X. Typical of the bikes from the Forchheim-based mail order company. With its fat Fox Podium upside-down fork and 170/160 mm travel, the bike is definitely a fully-fledged enduro bike. Big jumps, high drops, hard bumpy sections - this is where the Decoy X really blossoms. It inspires a lot of confidence, provides traction and craves speed. On flat trails and tame terrain, there are more lively and light-footed bikes, that's for sure. With the aluminium frame and Fox Monster, the weight ends up at over 25 kilos - despite the high-end equipment and high price. That's a lot. But the equipment is fully tuned for the toughest missions. And: The Decoy X is not a bike that only rides straight ahead and lumbers along. It can do manuals, flicks and jumps. But it should really go downhill. The wilder, the better. A real enduro bike.
