Plenty of downhill fun at a low price: that’s what the Cube AMS Hybrid 177 TM proved in the latest BIKE test. For 2027, Cube has lowered the price of this e-enduro bike and it also features a new suspension system. We’ve got all the details on this lightweight downhill specialist from Waldershof.

It’s an astonishingly consistent approach: with a small, permanently fitted battery, the AMS Hybrid 177 is all about handling and trail fun. For the 2027 model year, the Cube AMS Hybrid One77 TM is launching with a revamped spec. The most significant change: instead of a Fox suspension, the new model features a RockShox suspension. At the same time, the recommended retail price has fallen from 5,999 to 5,799 euros >> e.g. available here.

Test winner for the lightweight e-enduro

The The Cube AMS Hybrid 177 TM impressed in the BIKE test With its low weight, agile handling and a clear focus on sporty descents. Weighing in at 21.7 kilograms, the bike is one of the lightest e-mountain bikes fitted with a Bosch CX motor – despite its generous 170-millimetre suspension travel and robust build. In the price range up to 6,000 euros, the e-enduro secured victory in the test.

The carbon frame, the mullet set-up with a 29-inch front wheel and a 27.5-inch rear wheel, and 170 millimetres of suspension travel define the bike’s character. On the trail, the AMS Hybrid 177 proved to be particularly responsive and direct during testing. The suspension also offered plenty of reserves for rough terrain and fast descents.

One drawback is the permanently integrated 600 Wh battery. Whilst it saves weight and contributes to the bike’s agile handling, it cannot simply be removed from the down tube for charging. This can be a disadvantage on long rides and for everyday use.

New for 2027: RockShox instead of Fox

With the new Cube AMS Hybrid 177 C:62 TM 600X Cube has opted for RockShox suspension. At the front is a RockShox Zeb Select+ Charger 3.2 RC2 Air with 170 millimetres of travel, where a Fox 38 in the budget ‘Performance’ version previously did the job. At the rear, a RockShox Vivid Select takes the place of the chunky Fox Float X2. So it’s a 38mm fork against a 38mm fork, and a chunky enduro shock against a chunky enduro shock. The update is more a matter of personal preference than of quality or downhill performance.

The With the Charger 3.2 suspension, the Zeb Select+ already features Rockshox’s top-of-the-range cartridge and thus offers a wide range of adjustment options. The new Linear XL air chamber is also fitted. The Vivid Select shock absorber features only a two-position lever for compression damping; in this respect, the Fox shock absorber offered a more precise adjustment option.

Exactly how the switch to the RockShox suspension performs in practice depends in part on the suspension tuning that the Cube engineers have applied to the Vivid shock. Only a thorough test can provide a clear answer.

200 euros cheaper

With an RRP of 5,799 euros, the new model is 200 euros cheaper than its predecessor. Cube states that the new model weighs 22.5 kilos. That is slightly more than our measured weight from last model year. In fact, the RockShox suspension is slightly heavier, although the total difference between the fork and shock is only around 200 grams.

Who is the new AMS Hybrid 177 suitable for?

The Cube AMS Hybrid 177 C:62 TM 600X is aimed at e-mountain bikers looking for an agile e-enduro bike that excels on descents. The lightweight carbon frame, the mullet design and the 170 millimetres of suspension travel will particularly appeal to trail and enduro riders who value direct and fun handling.

For very long rides, the 600 Wh battery remains the main trade-off. Even the fixed battery isn’t ideal for every situation. However, those who mainly ride sporty routes, challenging trails and bike park lines are likely to benefit from the balanced weight distribution and the bike’s agile handling. Bosch is also set to launch a fast charger by the end of 2026. A product that could prove particularly significant for the concept featuring a small, permanently fitted battery.
