At Eurobike, Canyon is showcasing a full-suspension e-MTB with medium travel and an Avinox M2S motor. Could this be the successor to the Shimano-based Spectral:On?

Editorial assessment

The Canyon Avinox e-MTB looks very close to production spec and an official launch shouldn’t be far off. Its sleek trail bike design is a real hit. If Canyon can combine this with a low weight and an attractive price, the bike is sure to be a success.

M2S with 150 Nm, all-mountain travel

Canyon has let the cat out of the bag. The Koblenz-based company is pulling out all the stops at Eurobike with a veritable fireworks display of exciting new products. From connected urban concepts to road bikes fitted with cameras and a 32-inch cross-country bike, Canyon seems to be showcasing virtually all of next year’s most exciting new products at its huge exhibition stand.

This bike almost gets lost in the crowd. But lo and behold, there’s also an all-mountain e-MTB at Eurobike that looks completely ready for series production, fitted with an Avinox M2S motor – presumably a successor to the Spectral:On, which, however, does many things differently from its predecessor. A more powerful motor, a more robust battery and significantly more power combined with a lighter weight should set this bike apart from the current Spectral:On.

Slim frame, built-in battery

Instead of a removable super-capacity battery, the new bike has a permanently fitted battery. Specifically, it features the round 700-watt cell from Avinox, which allows for a particularly slim down tube. So the bike doesn’t quite match the current Spectral:On’s peak capacity of up to 900 watt-hours. However, the new Canyon is visually reminiscent of the sleek Light-Bike Spectral: On the fly. However, the bike is actually fitted with an Avinox M2S motor delivering 150 Nm and 1500 watts.

The show bike is fitted with a RockShox Lyrik fork and a Super Deluxe shock with a reservoir. The travel of the four-bar rear suspension is likely to be around 150 millimetres. Canyon has designed the bike as a mullet and, visually, it bears a strong resemblance to the classic Spectral and the Spectral:On Fly. The cables run through the head tube into the frame in the traditional manner.

Prices and models still unclear

As the bike hasn’t been officially unveiled yet, we’ll have to wait a little longer for specific details on prices, weight and geometry. It’s also still unclear which spec options will be available.
