Mondraker Arid Carbon Unlimited Faultline: A high-end gravel frameset for individualists

The Arid Carbon Unlimited Faultline remains, technically speaking, a new-generation Arid Carbon. The appeal of this frameset lies not in a secret carbon formula or new features, but in its appearance: the frame, fork and core components are finished with an elaborate custom paint job. With 50 millimetres of tyre clearance, in-frame storage and a UDH derailleur hanger, the frameset offers plenty of substance for fast gravel rides or long bikepacking stages. With only 47 numbered frames available, supply is severely limited. So if you want to build your very own Arid Unlimited Faultline, you’ll need to act fast. If exclusivity isn’t important to you, you can save yourself the extra cost by opting for the standard Arid frameset.

Faultline paint rather than a technological revolution

Mondraker combines the Lunar Magnesium and Vapor Titanium colourways to create a multi-layered crack texture. The fine cracks run across the frame and fork, as if the ground had fought back after a gruelling gravel sprint. Mondraker manufactures the Unlimited models in its in-house Blue Lab and paints each one by hand. The brand thus presents the frameset as a collector’s item.

The Arid platform: Plenty of space and clear priorities

For the frame, Mondraker has opted for Stealth Air Carbon, a fully internal HHG cable routing system and a threaded BSA bottom bracket. Added to this are a 12x142-millimetre rear axle width, UDH standard and a design specifically tailored for single-chainring set-ups. This opens the door to modern gravel and MTB drivetrains. A setup with a front derailleur is not provided for.

The tyre clearance of up to 50 millimetres remains crucial for the bike’s intended use. This means the Arid is clearly aimed at more than just the classic local gravel loop. Wide tyres, low pressure, rough tracks, short single-track detours: this is precisely where the design really comes into its own.

The redesigned frame storage compartment can hold the three carry-on bags supplied. This means the inner tube, CO₂ cartridge, multi-tool and tubeless plugs no longer need to be carried in the jersey pockets.

A slimmer fork, familiar geometry

The Stealth Air Carbon fork does away with its side-mounted attachment points. According to the manufacturer, this saves around 20 grams and is said to provide additional flex. Anyone wishing to turn their gravel bike into a packhorse therefore needs to sort out their luggage strategy via the frame, seatpost or handlebars. With the Faultline, Mondraker clearly prioritises a sleek design over bikepacking functionality.

The geometry remains identical to that of the Arid Carbon: a 70-degree head angle, a 74-degree effective seat angle and 425-millimetre chainstays are common to all five sizes. This promises a smooth yet responsive ride. For even rougher terrain, Mondraker also allows the use of gravel suspension forks such as the RockShox Rudy XPLR or Fox TC32.

Advantages and disadvantages
