The Riverside GCR comes with good equipment and a great design. But is the bike from Decathlon worth its unusually high price?

RiversideAs the own brand of sports giant Decathlon, may not appeal to everyone. Contrary to the usual strategy of offering pretty good sports goods at a super price, the full carbon bike with expensive HM fibres is a top athlete, but also at a real price. As one of three test bikes, it comes with the electric 1x12 Sram Rival groupset, the shifting comfort is fantastic, the twelve gear ratios up to the huge 44 sprocket are fully sufficient for touring, everyday life and sporty laps, when it gets very mountainous, you occasionally wish for smaller gear jumps or one more gear.

Interesting: No other test bike received so many compliments from passers-by for its design, the shiny grey is great, the curves of the frameset and the slim seat stay look super high-quality, as do the slightly flared handlebars. The brakes on the Riverside GCR are also from Sram, we liked the pressure point and noise development a little better than the Shimano models, the braking power is definitely enough for the light, super agile bike!

This also applies to fast rides, and the entire Garvelbike is designed for this. You don't sit in an extremely sporty position, but you do sit with your shoulders above the pivot point of the handlebars, and the speedster reacts wonderfully directly to weight shifts. You're almost happy to do without threads for luggage. The good wheels with "only" 28 spokes and the maximum system weight of 120 kg are also not very suitable for travelling.

Conclusion on the Riverside GCR gravel bike

Sporty high-tech model with clear strengths for training on roads and in light terrain, great equipment and design, an exotic model and worth every cent!

Flowing shapes, top paintwork, few eyelets and threads: the bike and frameset are clearly designed for sport, but are guaranteed to be fun.Photo: Horst FadelFlowing shapes, top paintwork, few eyelets and threads: the bike and frameset are clearly designed for sport, but are guaranteed to be fun.
