Specialised launches the new Vado 3 collection on the market. The new Vado 3 models come in two different platforms, which differ in their area of use. The centrepiece of the versatile urban bikes is the 3.1 motor, which was previously used in the Levo 4 generation of e-mountainbikes. The mid-motor develops 810 W of power and 105 Nm of torque. Power is supplied by an integrated 840 Wh battery.
The new Vado 3 collection from Specialised is divided into two variants: The Turbo Vado 3 is designed for city and touring, while the Turbo Vado 3 EVO is designed for mixed terrain. There are three equipment levels to choose from in each case.
The Turbo Vado 3 is road-orientated and has 90 mm suspension travel at the front. The tyres are 2.3-inch Infinity Touring tyres, which are designed for asphalt and paved paths. The Turbo Vado 3 EVO uses a suspension fork with 120 mm travel; for frame size S it is 100 mm. The tyres are significantly wider at 2.6 inches. Specialized uses Hemisphere All-Terrain tyres, which are designed to offer more grip on loose surfaces. The motor, battery and frame platform are identical on both versions.
The design concept of the Vado 3 follows a clear line: reduction to the essentials. In the top models, the cockpit merges seamlessly with the frame and accommodates the new MasterMind C4 display. According to the manufacturer, the 2.2-inch touchscreen impresses with its high resolution and scratch resistance. The sophisticated features include the wireless charging function for smartphones via the Quad Lock system. On the software side, Specialized relies on over-the-air technology - updates can be installed without a visit to the workshop.
The Specialized 3.1 drive marks a significant evolutionary leap: The 105 Nm means a torque increase of 50 per cent compared to the sister model Vado 2 - in practice, a speed of 25 km/h should be reached within three seconds. More interesting than the sheer power, however, is the promise of natural development: the "SuperNatural Power" characteristic is aimed at harmonious support instead of brute force. Combined with quiet running and optimised energy efficiency, the result is a drive concept that should be equally suitable for stop-and-go city driving and long-distance journeys lasting several hours.
The Turbo Vado 3 4.0 is the entry-level model in the series. The gearing comes from the Shimano Cues groupset and has 9 gears. The model costs 4,199 euros. A colour display shows the most important riding data and smartphones can be charged via a USB-C port.
The Turbo Vado 3 5.0 features Shimano Cues gears with 11 speeds. The price is 5,299 euros. The 2.2" touchscreen display on the cockpit provides all the riding data.
The top version, the Turbo Vado 3 .0, also uses the touchscreen. A new feature is the wireless Quad Lock charging station for smartphones with inductive charging function. Here, however, an electronic Sram S1000 Eagle AXS drivetrain replaces the mechanical systems of the cheaper models. The 6.0 model costs 6,999 euros.
All three Vado models come with integrated lighting. The front light is located on the handlebars, the rear light on the pannier rack. Specialised installs a brake light that lights up when you brake. A frame lock is part of the standard equipment, as is a battery lock. Mudguards and pannier rack are fitted. This means that the bikes also fulfil the StVZO requirements for road traffic.
Both platforms are available in all three trim levels. The Turbo Vado 3 4.0 is available in Nebula Metallic/Silver Dust, Pacific Blue/Dune White and Sandstone Metallic/Warm Smoke Metallic. The 5.0 comes in Amethyst Frost Metallic/Bordeaux Metallic and Metallic Obsidian/Dolomite Metallic. Agave Grey/Black Pearl and Warm Smoke Metallic/Satin Brushed Chrome are available for the 6.0.
The Turbo Vado 3 EVO uses the same colour combinations. On the EVO 6.0, the second colour variant is Warm Smoke Metallic/Brushed Chrome instead of Satin Brushed Chrome.
All models are available in sizes S, M, L and XL. The EVO frame size S has a fork with 100 mm travel instead of 120 mm to adjust the proportions.
| Vado 3 | Vado 3 EVO | |
| Suspension | Suspension fork, 90 mm travel | Suspension fork, 120 mm travel (size S: 100 mm) |
| Impellers | 29" / 27.5" | 27.5" / 27.5" |
| Tyres | Infinity Touring 2.3" | Hemisphere All-Terrain 2.6" |
The choice between the two models depends primarily on the usage scenario. The Turbo Vado 3 shows its strengths on paved surfaces: Tarmac cycle paths, urban commuting routes and classic touring routes are its metier. This is where it scores with its road-optimised design, efficient power transmission and dynamic handling.
The Turbo Vado 3 EVO, on the other hand, positions itself as a more versatile all-rounder. The wider tyres, longer suspension travel and more robust set-up make it the superior choice as soon as the trail gets rougher. It masters forest tracks, gravel passages and uneven terrain with noticeably more confidence and riding comfort. The surcharge pays off in an extended range of applications.
