The e-bike manufacturer Heybike - not to be confused with Haibike - announces the EC Compact, a new electric city bike. The compact pedelec from the Düsseldorf-based company is to be launched on the market in two versions: a city and a sport version. Both models are based on a 6061 aluminium frame with a reinforced rear triangle. The manufacturer emphasises the weld-free design, which is intended to give the e-bike a clean look.
The EC Compact is equipped with a 250-watt electric motor that provides assistance up to a speed of 25 kilometres per hour. The rear hub motor fitted is not specified in terms of brand or manufacturer.
A 36-volt battery with a capacity of 468 Wh provides the power supply. According to Heybike, this should enable a range of 110 kilometres. The battery is removable, which should make charging and storage easier.
Both versions of the EC Compact are equipped with the so-called Mivice torque sensor. This is designed to provide natural support from the electric motor by measuring the pedalling force applied and adjusting the motor power accordingly.
The City version of the EC Compact is designed for urban use. It has an automatic 3-speed hub gear, which is designed to enable effortless shifting in city traffic.
2.4-inch wide tyres ensure grip on the road and comfort in the saddle. This equipment is aimed at commuters who are looking for an uncomplicated e-bike for their daily commute to work.
The EC Compact Sport is aimed at riders who want more versatility. It is equipped with an 8-speed derailleur system from Shimano, which offers a wider range of gear ratios. This should make it easier to ride on different terrains. The Sport model also has an unspecified suspension fork. It also has more heavily profiled 20-inch tyres.
Both versions of the EC Compact are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes from Tektro. These are designed to ensure reliable deceleration even at higher speeds or on wet roads.
The standard equipment also includes a pannier rack and mudguards as well as lights at the front and rear. According to the manufacturer, the pannier rack is designed for a maximum system weight of 120 kilograms, whereby this weight includes the total weight of the rider, bike and luggage.
Heybike is equipping the EC Compact with a smart app. This is intended to offer users additional control and convenience. The manufacturer does not provide any specific details about the app's functions. The e-bike is available in three colours: Black, cream and yellow.
Sales of the EC Compact Citybike will initially start in a pre-sale phase. Heybike is offering a special promotion as part of this: Customers can purchase a voucher for 50 euros, which grants a discount of 200 euros on the purchase price of the EC Compact during the pre-sale period. This is a nominal saving of 150 euros on the already very low retail price of 1699 euros.
