Ampler Curt Upgrade: Ultra-light e-bike gets USB-C for convenient charging

The Estonian manufacturer Ampler is unveiling the next stage in the evolution of its minimalist e-bike, the Curt. We tested the previous model here. After years of further development, the model returns as the brand’s lightest and most sophisticated bike to date. The new version features an integrated USB-C charging port directly on the frame, a new carbon fork, two drive options, revised electronics and the company’s most advanced frame integration to date. With a starting weight of 14.1 kilograms, the Curt is the lightest e-bike in the Ampler range and is aimed at design-conscious urban cyclists who value a minimalist aesthetic alongside modern technology.
Timeless design with modern technology
According to the manufacturer, the Curt embodies the design philosophy of ‘form follows function’ and is based on the principles of the Bauhaus. Every line, every weld and every surface has been deliberately designed, with every detail serving a purpose. The double-butted aluminium frame, with its discreet welds and balanced geometry, is designed to deliver a riding experience that feels both stable and almost weightless. The new lightweight carbon fork, with its optimised fibre structure, dampens vibrations for smoother handling, a direct riding feel and noticeable precision in every bend. According to Ampler, the Curt can be ridden as effortlessly as a normal bike and also offers the gentle assistance of the virtually silent motor whenever you want it.
Innovative charging technology and redesigned electronics
The technical overhaul focuses on the new USB-C charging system fitted directly to the frame – according to Ampler, the first of its kind in the e-bike world. A single cable charges your laptop, smartphone and bike. Thanks to its 140-watt fast-charging function, the Curt is fully charged in just 2.5 hours. The battery system has been redesigned using state-of-the-art cells to ensure a longer service life, greater reliability and consistent performance. However, the real revolution lies even deeper: a new electronic core, developed entirely in-house by Amplers’ engineering team. This so-called ABC module combines Bluetooth, GPS and mobile connectivity, as well as smart diagnostics, in a waterproof system designed to ensure quiet, stable operation in all conditions. Using the Ampler app, you can adjust the level of assistance precisely to suit your own pace – from a gentle nudge to full electric power.
Drive options and trim levels
The Curt is available with two different drive options: a single-speed version with a low-maintenance Gates carbon belt, or an 11-speed Shimano gear system for greater control. Both versions are powered by a 250-watt rear hub motor with 45 Newton-metres of torque and a 336-watt-hour LG lithium-ion battery. The manufacturer states a range of up to 100 kilometres, depending on the terrain and the selected assistance level. The frame is now designed to accommodate a kickstand, allowing for two configurations: The ‘Blank’ version focuses on the essentials and comes without mudguards, a luggage rack or a kickstand. The ‘Equipped’ version, on the other hand, is delivered with accessories already fitted and offers practical everyday usability straight from the factory.
