The idea of YT company founder Markus Flossman is to give young talents access to competition-ready mountain bikes. Two years ago, the Jeffsy Primus series made it possible for younger riders to start riding with the 24- and 26-inch wheel sizes. Not only visually, but also in terms of equipment, they should be in no way inferior to the all-mountain bikes for the "big ones", like the YT Jeffsy 29 Core 2.
The latest bike from YT, the Jeffsy Primus 27, is designed to convey this feeling. With its 27.5-inch wheels, it is aimed specifically at youngsters or small adults with a height of 145 cm to 160 cm. In contrast to its siblings, the Jeffsy Primus 24 and Jeffsy Primus 26, it is also the heaviest of the three bikes at 15.3 kilos. With a suspension travel of 150 millimetres, it can be used both in the park and on the mountain, typical of an all-mountain bike. According to YT, the bikes were developed with the preferences and riding characteristics of smaller riders in mind and a lot of emphasis was placed on performance.
This is ensured by the right combination of fork, spring and shock - on the YT Jeffsy Primus 27 this is a Rockshox Lyrik Base fork with a Debonair+ air spring and a Deluxe Select shock from Rockshox with custom tune - namely a reduced volume. The same cockpit that was already fitted to the Primus 26, an E-13 cockpit with ODI grips, is responsible for the handling. The Sram SX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain and 165 mm cranks provide plenty of power up front. The Primus 27 is brought to a halt by Sram G2 R brakes with 200 mm discs front and rear.
Whether uphill or downhill, even young riders get the right grip with Maxxis DHF & DHR II tyres. The tyres are mounted on the classic Sunringle Duroc 35 - now in 27.5 inch with 35 mm width. The 125 mm YT Postman dropper provides more freedom of movement downhill. The price of the new YT Primus 27 is 2399 euros.
