A trail hardtail offers an extremely wide range of uses, from touring to downhill fun. It is also suitable for training on the pump track and is therefore perfectly suited to the needs of children. After all, they want to play and should not always be tied down. The VPace Matti24 is a new 24-inch hardtail with an 80-millimetre fork that lets kids tackle their first trails with ease.

Hardly any other manufacturer has made a name for itself among mountain bike enthusiasts for good children's bikes like VPace. Successful models, such as the Max hardtail series, were quick to capitalise on the advantages of larger wheels for smaller children. With the Matti, Max now has a brother optimised for use in demanding terrain. 20 millimetres more suspension travel and more downhill-oriented equipment should equip the bike for trail adventures without restricting its versatility.

New frame for the children's hardtail

Unlike the previous VPace Max-Trail, the Matti comes with its own frame. A new down tube not only provides a fresh look, but also more stability. Whereas the cables were previously routed along the top tube, they now run under the down tube on the new frame. Until now, trail hardtails in the VPace product family were only reserved for bikes with 26 or 27.5 inch wheels. With the Matti24, kids from 120 centimetres tall now have a robust bike with trail equipment for the first time. The Matti is available with an orange or black paint finish as standard.

Riding over trails without a care in the world

To ensure that kids are also equipped for more challenging off-road terrain, children's bike specialist VPace has opted for an equipment package on the Matti24 that has also proven itself on bikes for adults. The trail-optimised equipment includes a Kind Shock dropper post with 75 millimetre adjustment range and a Sram NX 11-speed drivetrain with 382 percent gear range. Magura brakes with large pistons bring even fast children to a halt.

Despite a compact chainstay length, the rear triangle has plenty of tyre clearance. The 2.35 inch wide Schwalbe Rocket Ron tyres promise grip and cushioning on rough terrain. If you value low weight, you can swap the Sun rims with an inner width of 27 millimetres for 23.5 millimetre narrow and extra-light Duke rims for an additional 100 euros. Although the bike runs on small 24-inch wheels, a robust thru-axle is used at the front and rear. Thanks to the Postmount standard, the brake callipers are neatly integrated into the overall appearance of the VPace Matti.
