A key feature of the Urge Treps is the sophisticated ventilation system. Instead of simply integrating as many openings as possible into the helmet shell, the engineers at Urge have developed a complex network of air channels. Three large inlet openings at the front are designed to ensure a high air flow rate. The air flow inside is optimised to ensure effective cooling even when riding slowly. Even on hot summer days, the helmet should ensure a comfortable fit. Another special feature is the so-called pop-off visor. This has two regular positions and a third "virtual" position. In the event of a violent impact, the visor should detach from the helmet in a controlled manner to reduce the risk of injury.
Urge uses patented ERT technology (Energy Reduction Technology) for impact protection. This is a system of soft polymer pads. According to the manufacturer, these are designed in such a way that they can effectively absorb both rotational and linear impact energy. One advantage over conventional EPS helmets is that ERT is activated at lower impact forces. Conventional helmets are often only designed to absorb very high forces, as simulated in certification tests. ERT, on the other hand, improves energy dissipation even in less violent falls, which can often lead to concussions.
Urge has paid particular attention to the environmental compatibility of the tread. This Bicycle helmet consists largely of recycled and bio-based materials. Recycled EPS, PET, PA and ABS are used for the helmet shell.
The upholstery is made from bamboo fibres. According to Urge, this natural material is characterised by high strength combined with good flexibility. It also has moisture-wicking properties, which should improve comfort on longer tours. As a fast-growing plant, bamboo is also a particularly sustainable resource.
Urge also focusses on environmental friendliness when it comes to packaging. The cardboard is made from FSC-certified material and water-soluble colours are used for printing. Instead of plastic bags, a biodegradable bag made from corn starch is used.
In addition to the technical innovations, the Treps offers a range of features suitable for everyday use. The helmet shell has been shaped so that sunglasses can be easily stowed on the helmet - parked under the visor. The chin strap is fastened using a magnetic buckle from Fidlock, which can be easily operated with one hand.
The new Urge Treps is available in two sizes (S/M and L/XL) and five different colours. A special feature is the comprehensive Crash Replacement Programme: if a customer has a crash within the first five years of purchase, they receive a new helmet at half price.
