The Italian helmet manufacturer MET is expanding its portfolio with the new Revo mountain bike helmet, which was designed as a further development of the MET Roam. The focus during development was on optimising the safety aspects to meet the current requirements of modern mountain biking. When developing the Revo, MET paid particular attention to the combination of linear and rotational impact standards. This is intended to ensure improved helmet performance in a wide range of crash scenarios.
Notably, the Revo has been certified to NTA 8776, the only safety standard specifically designed for fast e-bikes. This certification means that the helmet is able to absorb significantly more impact energy. Specifically, the helmet is tested at 21 per cent higher impact speeds and, according to the manufacturer, can absorb up to 43 per cent more impact energy. In addition, the helmet shell offers a 10 per cent larger tested impact surface in the two most sensitive areas of the brain: the back of the head and the temples.
Another focus during the development of the MET Revo was on improving ventilation. MET states that the helmet was developed in "The Tube", the company's own wind tunnel. The result is a 23.5 per cent improvement in cooling efficiency compared to the previous model. This improvement is achieved through internal ventilation channels, which are designed to ensure efficient air circulation. The Revo has a total of 23 ventilation openings which, in combination with an internal, technically sophisticated air duct system, are designed to ensure optimum cooling.
The MET Revo is equipped with the Mips Air Node system, which aims to reduce rotational impact forces. This system, in combination with the in-mould polycarbonate shell and EPS liner, is designed to provide comprehensive protection. The safety aspects of the helmet were tested by the Virginia Tech Helmet Lab, with the MET Revo receiving the highest possible rating of 5 stars. This test takes into account both linear and rotational impact energies and therefore goes beyond the usual helmet testing standards.
There is also brand new helmet news from Fox. The classic Speedframe has received a complete update and is now available in three versions. We have already been able to test the Fox Speedframe Pro.
The Safe-T Heta adjustment system ensures a precise and comfortable fit. This system includes a 360-degree head strap and three vertical adjustment options, which is designed to allow customisation to different head shapes.
The Revo has an adjustable visor with a safety release system that is designed to release in the event of a fall so that the position of the helmet on the head does not change during the impact. For easy handling, even when wearing gloves, the helmet is equipped with a magnetic Fidlock fastening system.
The MET Revo is available in three sizes: S (52-56 centimetres), M (56-58 centimetres) and L (58-61 centimetres). The weight of size M is stated as 390 grams. In addition to NTA 8776 certification, the helmet also fulfils CE, US and AS-NZ standards.
