With the Comete SL, Mavic presents a new bike helmet that is aerodynamically optimised and equipped with the MIPS safety system. At a price of 159 euros, this new helmet lies between the top model Ultimate 2, which costs 199 euros, and the more affordable Aksium Elite for 59 euros.

The Ergo Hold SL+ retention system provides support and comfort, while the Autofit straps are cut wide and leave enough space around the ears. If it fits, this design is a comfortable solution, but it does not allow for individual adjustments. The MIPS shell is generously padded with two wide foam layers at the top and one in the forehead area; there is enough space for a ponytail above the central adjustment wheel at the back.

Thanks to the integrated MIPS protection technology, the risk of brain injuries is reduced. The helmet shell is pulled down far enough to provide plenty of coverage in the neck area, thus improving protection for the back of the skull. The stated weight of 280 grams for size M is an average value. Reflective material on the sides and rear improves visibility in low light conditions.

Mavic has had its new Comete SL tested in the HEPIA wind tunnel in Geneva. According to the manufacturer, thanks to its aerodynamically optimised shape, the helmet should offer 28 percent less resistance to the wind than the standard models in the range. The French company advertises that the Comete SL should save up to 4.5 watts of pedalling power.
