The camping boom in Germany is reaching new heights: in 2024, German campsites recorded a new record of 42.9 million overnight stays. Every twelfth overnight stay took place on a campsite. At the same time, the demand for individual and flexible solutions for mobile travelling is growing steadily. Tchibo is picking up on this trend and is now offering a modular, customisable van conversion system in its online shop together with the Austrian van conversion company Mavis. The entry-level price is 15,900 euros. As a special highlight, Tchibo is exclusively presenting the "Rick Edition", which was developed in collaboration with former professional cyclist Rick Zabel.

Mavis modular system for different room concepts

At the heart of the Mavis system is a robust aluminium frame, which is mounted on the ceiling, walls and floor as a basic system and creates a stable foundation for all further installations. The furnishings are modular. Depending on preferences, different room concepts can be realised, for example with an outdoor shower or an extra-large kitchenette. The Mavis extension modules also offer everything you need for mobile working - from power supply and flexible seating and working options to perfect networking thanks to smart technology. The entry-level price for the basic system is 15,900 euros, including installation, and the van is immediately ready to drive. The modular extension system consisting of a robust aluminium interior frame, efficient insulation, high-quality panelling, sophisticated floor system, modern lighting system and complete cabling is the perfect preparation for any interior design and fits into any van.

Tschibo also offers "Rick Edition"

Former professional cyclist Rick Zabel, Son of cycling legend Erik Zabel and partner at Mavis, has channelled his experience as a professional athlete, podcaster, content creator and family man into the development of a special van version. The "Rick Edition" is an adventure van that focusses on functionality and a thirst for adventure. It offers space for bikes and equipment, comfortable sleeping facilities and a self-sufficient power and water supply. The Rick Edition includes a roof rack, modular wall cabinets, a pull-out refrigerator, a flexible bed system and a generous storage space organiser. The price for this special edition is 34,990 euros. Tchibo customers also have the exclusive opportunity to find out more about his life as a professional athlete and "van-fluencer" at a meet & greet with Rick Zabel.

Focus on sustainability

Mavis attaches great importance to environmental friendliness in the production of its van conversion systems. The modules are made from durable, repairable and reusable materials. Local production shortens transport routes and reduces the carbon footprint. Each module can later be reused in new vehicles and thus corresponds to a sustainable transport and tourism concept. Tchibo Product Manager Kristian Porru emphasises: "Tchibo pays attention to sustainability in its offers and cooperation partners. With this offer, Tchibo once again has its finger on the pulse of the times: we promote sustainable, individualised tourism and support flexible living and working models - at fair prices."

Camping trend and caravanning

The motorhome industry is benefiting particularly strongly from the ongoing camping trend. With around 2.5 million leisure vehicles on Europe's roads and 150,000 new registrations per year, the increasing popularity of this form of travel is clearly evident. Flexible solutions are particularly popular: Converted panel vans have overtaken classic motorhomes or camper vans and are now the number one motorhome. The younger generation of millennials in particular is showing an increasing affinity for caravans. 23 per cent of those interested in motorhomes are between 25 and 34 years old. This age group appreciates affordable solutions that are suitable for a wide range of travelling purposes - from a trip around Europe to a festival visit, a workation or a sabbatical in the Algarve. With the MAVIS van conversion system, Tchibo now offers a solution that fulfils precisely these needs for flexibility, individuality and sustainability. Whether as a family camper, a mobile office for workation, a pet-friendly travelling companion or an outdoor workshop - the modular extensions can be adapted to a wide variety of living situations and usage scenarios.
