Test 2015: Giant Trance Advanced 2
In life, nothing comes for free, so they say. Or in other words: no advantage without a disadvantage. If you want to offer a great carbon frame for 2999 euros, you have to save elsewhere.

This is also the case with the Trance, whose "Advanced" suffix refers to the 2.47-kilo carbon fibre main frame. You discover Sram shifters from the X7 series, the inexpensive Sektor fork, a shock with no platform position and a quick release instead of a thru axle in the rear wheel. The riders set off on their test laps with certain reservations and return surprised: the bike works well! In terms of geometry and riding position, it is one of the best. The fork responds finely and also copes well with downhill riding. Ultimately, the narrow tyres set the limits. The chain guide promises more downhill than the bike can deliver.

ConclusionThe Giant scores with its high-quality carbon frame. The good handling makes you forget the favourable equipment. A solid all-rounder!

PLUS Lightweight carbon frame, good details such as chain guide, powerful brakes
MINUS Weak equipment, shocks without platform, telescopic support catches when lowering

The alternative: If you can do without the carbon chassis, take the Trance 1 with an aluminium frame. For € 2999, you can get a Shimano groupset, Revelation fork and Monarch shock with platform as well as carbon wheels.
