Giant presents its classic touring bike Trance X E+ with a new motor and in carbon guise. On board in 2022: smart features for carefree riding fun.

In autumn 2021, Giant presented the new Reign E+ 0 with the brand-new SyncDrive Pro2 motor. The enduro bike was the starting signal for an entirely new generation of e-MTBs from the Taiwanese company. Its hallmark is the significantly slimmer design made possible by the new power unit.

The classic touring bike Trance X E+ is undergoing the same modernisation for the new season, but is also adding new highlights. For the first time, a Giant E-MTB has been given a carbon chassis. And true to the motto "think less, ride more", the Taiwanese want to have built the most intelligent e-MTB on the market.

How is this to be achieved? As a first step, the product managers gave the all-rounder the latest version of Fox's electronically controlled Live Valve suspension. This system replaces the mechanical lockout by automatically opening and closing the platform on the suspension fork and shock. Twelve sensors measure 1000 times per second whether impacts from the ground are reaching the rider and then open the damping. This ensures maximum riding enjoyment on the trail without even having to think about the lockout lever. The sensitivity of the sensors and the suspension characteristics can be adjusted via the app.

But that's not all. In a second step, Giant also wants to make reaching for the support level controller superfluous with its Smart Assist mode. Similar to the Trail or E-MTB mode from Shimano or Bosch, the motor output in this mode is based on the rider's effort in order to provide the most natural riding experience possible. Same game as with the suspension: the power output of all support levels can be fine-tuned using the Ride Control app.

Why not free of charge? Because quality journalism has a price. In return, we guarantee independence and objectivity. This applies in particular to the tests in EMTB. We don't pay for them, but the opposite is the case: we charge for them, namely tens of thousands of euros every year.
