New battery concept: Focus Jam²
With the Jam², Focus is launching a completely new concept onto the market: a small 378 Wh battery is used in the frame of the E-MTB full-suspension bike, which can be expanded by the same capacity.

The new Focus Jam² E-MTB comes with a choice of 29er tyres or wide plus tyres. Both versions of the motorised all-mountain bike have 140 millimetres of suspension travel. This is generated by the Jam known FOLD rear triangle. For maximum sensitivity, the characteristic curve is initially degressive and then becomes progressive to protect against bottoming out. The forks also provide 140 millimetres of travel.

Propulsion is provided by the new Shimano Steps E8000 motor. This is powered by a 378 Wh battery concealed in the frame. If this capacity is not enough, a second battery with the same capacity can be attached to the rail on the down tube. The bottom line is 756 Wh, which should be enough even for extremely long tours. The advantage of this concept is that if you only have a short time, you can manage with the shorter range and the bike is significantly lighter. Bitter: The second battery costs 500 euros extra.

The Focus Jam² also aims to come as close as possible to a "normal" mountain bike with its geometry: The relatively slack head angle (66.5 degrees) promises a smooth ride, while the 457 millimetre short chainstays should ensure agile handling. The reach is modern, but not excessively long: In frame size large, it is 445 millimetres.

Models of the Focus Jam²

There will be six different models ranging from 4000 to 6500 euros. The weights start at 19.5 kilos and go up to 21.5 kilos - without an additional battery. The top Focus Jam² Pro model is available with either 29er or Plus wheels. Both models have a Rock Shox Yari suspension fork, a deluxe rear shock and electronic Shimano XT Di2 gears. The Plus version costs 6500 euros, the 29er model 500 euros less. This is because the Plus bike is fitted with higher quality wheels.

The Jam² Factory comes as the Focus employees would ride it: With powerful Magrua MT5 brakes, Sram NX drivetrain and high-quality DT Swiss Plus wheels. Focus also relies on the Yari fork and a deluxe shock for this model. The Factory model costs 5500 euros.

There are also two 29er models (for 4000 and 4500 euros) and a Plus Jam² for 4600 euros. These bikes have slimmed-down, yet sophisticated equipment: a Rock Shox Recon Silver suspension fork at the front and a deluxe shock at the rear. The gears are shifted using mechanical Shimano components. Also on board: a Vario seat post.
