Canyon is expanding its E-MTB range with a downhill-oriented version of the Neuron:On aluminium full-suspension bike. The new CLLCTV Special Edition is aimed at price-conscious trail and enduro riders who are looking for more performance on demanding trails. The upgraded Neuron uses the proven touring qualities of the all-rounder as the basis for a significantly more downhill-orientated setup. While the regular Canyon Neuron:On is known for its versatility and uncomplicated handling, the new CLLCTV version clearly focusses on technically demanding descents without neglecting touring suitability.
The most obvious difference to the regular Canyon Neuron:On is the mullet setup for sizes M to XL. In other words, a 29-inch front wheel combined with a 27.5-inch rear wheel. The classic Neuron:On uses 29-inch wheels on both bikes. Exception: 27.5-inch wheels are used throughout on the smaller frame sizes XS and S. Canyon has developed a completely new rocker linkage to implement this geometry change.
In addition, the front receives a significant suspension travel upgrade: instead of the usual 150 mm, the CLLCTV version offers a full 160 mm of travel, realised by a Rockshox Zeb with massive 38 mm stanchions. These changes result in a slacker steering angle of 64.5 degrees, which should give the bike more stability on steep sections and a smoother ride.
However, the technical adjustments go far beyond just the geometry. For the Canyon Neuron:On CLLCTV, Canyon has installed reinforced bearings at all pivot points, which can also be serviced with a single 8 mm Allen key. These design details emphasise the claim to create a reliable bike for demanding missions, which should also be able to cope with heavier loads without any problems.
When it comes to the drive, Canyon relies on the proven fifth-generation Bosch Performance Line CX motor, after the latest software update with up to 100 Nm torque and a peak output of up to 750 watts. Power is supplied by an 800 Wh battery, which can be removed quickly and easily. The optional Bosch range extender with 250 Wh does not fit in the bike. However, according to the manufacturer, even the powerful main battery should provide enough range for long trail tours without a shuttle service.
A Bosch LED remote on the handlebars is used to control the system. The data can be synchronised with the eBike Flow app via the integrated Bosch Connect module, which opens up additional functions and customisation options. This equipment underlines the Neuron CLLCTV's claim to be a fully-fledged trail eMTB for long, demanding tours.
When choosing components, Canyon consistently favours high-quality parts that match the downhill-oriented character of the bike. The aforementioned Rockshox Zeb at the front is complemented by a Rockshox Super Deluxe Ultimate shock at the rear. This combination should ensure maximum control, comfort and traction even on rough trails.
The necessary deceleration is provided by SRAM Maven brakes, which Canyon claims are among the most powerful brakes on the market - an important factor on a bike designed for high speeds in technical terrain. Shifting is handled by the mechanical SRAM Eagle 90 transmission, which is said to work reliably even under tough conditions.
The Canyon Neuron CLLCTV will be available immediately at a price of € 5,499 - exclusively in the spec shown. The bike is available in frame sizes XS to XL and can be ordered exclusively via the Canyon website and the Canyon app. There, interested parties can also find detailed geometry tables, service information and instructions to help with the purchase decision.
