The Spanish manufacturer BH had just relaunched its Lynx race bike for the 2021 season. Now comes the down-country plus version, so to speak: the BH Lynx Trail Carbon. The new all-mountain bike with 150 millimetres of travel in a Split Pivot suspension system aims to live up to its claim of delivering the right performance both uphill and downhill.
What is immediately noticeable about the frame is that the main pivot point of the rear swing arm is a good distance in front of and above the bottom bracket. This means that the suspension of this trail bike should work as independently as possible of the pedalling and braking force. The efficiency of the BH-Racebike Lynx is also 100 per cent in the Lynx Trail Carbon.
The sober figures say: the chainstays are short at 435 mm, the reach is long with a forward steering angle of 65 degrees and the seat tube is optimised for pedalling at 77 degrees. At Beistegui Hermanos S.A. (BH for short), they call it a "fun bike that is playful and easy to handle on trails and offers excellent stability at high speeds".
For the rear axle, BH relies on the new, once again wider Super Boost size - at 12 x 157 millimetres, a full 9 mm wider than the usual Boost size. The equation on the Lynx Trail: more space means more even tension on both sides of the wheel. This results in more lateral stiffness and, with the short chainstays, more space for wider tyres. Does this mean that 'normal' Boost will soon be history?
The Lynx Trail Carbon frame also has race genes. The HCIM (Hollow Core Internal Moulding) process used optimises the amount of material in each part of the frame. The result is a slim 2.2 kilograms for the frame - BH does not reveal the total weight.
The BH Lynx Trail Carbon is available in four sizes, from S to XL. Three models are available, but they all have the same carbon frame. Depending on the configuration (XT / Deore to XTR), the Lynx Trail 9.0 costs 4699, the 9.5 model 5999 and version 9.8 is priced at 8099 euros. There are three standard colours to choose from, which can be fully customised with the BH Unique programme - for an extra 300 euros.
