The bicycle manufacturer Cube has launched a product safety recall for all hybrid models from model year 2025 that are equipped with ACID MTB Hybrid Pro crank arms. A total of over 100 models are involved. The recall is based on internal tests and feedback from the market, which indicate that the crank arms are coming loose. Faulty crank bolts were identified as the cause, which now have to be replaced with modified versions free of charge. The manufacturer emphasises that a prompt replacement of the crank bolts is necessary to maintain product safety. Continued use of the affected bikes without replacement could lead to the crank arms loosening and falling off, which in turn could result in falls.

Affected models and procedure

Only e-bike models from model year 2025 that are equipped with the ACID MTB Hybrid Pro crank arms are affected. All of these bikes have a Bosch motor and batteries with either 400, 600 or 800 watt hours. Cube has published a detailed list of all affected models, which can be viewed on the company website. Acid is Cube's in-house component brand.

Owners of an affected bike are requested to take their e-bike to an authorised Cube dealer immediately. There, the crank arms will be checked and the faulty crank bolts replaced free of charge. The manufacturer points out that it is unfortunately not possible to supply new crank bolts directly to end customers. The replacement must be carried out by a specialist dealer in order to ensure correct assembly and therefore safety.

Identification of the affected components

The affected crank arms can be clearly recognised on the product photos in the recall notice. These are the ACID MTB Hybrid Gen4 Pro crank arms, which can be installed on the left or right. It is important to note that only bikes from model year 2025 are affected by this recall. Older models with similar looking crank arms are not covered by this recall. Cube recommends that all customers who are unsure whether their bike is affected should check the model name against the published list or contact a Cube dealer directly. Specialist dealers are informed about the recall and can quickly determine whether the crank bolts need to be replaced.

Background and security risks

The recall follows internal tests and feedback from the market, which indicate a potential safety risk. The faulty crank bolts can cause the crank arms to come loose while riding. In the worst case scenario, this can lead to the crank arms falling off completely, which poses a significant risk of falling. This risk should not be underestimated, especially with e-bikes, which can accelerate quickly and reach higher speeds more easily. Cube therefore emphasises the urgency of the replacement and advises against further use of the affected bikes until the crank bolts have been replaced. The manufacturer will bear the full cost of the replacement and apologises to customers for any inconvenience caused.

Recall procedure

The recall is being carried out via the existing Cube dealer network. Affected customers should take their e-bike to an authorised Cube dealer, who will order the necessary spare parts and carry out the replacement. Cube has provided all dealers with information on the recall and how to carry out the replacement. The new, modified crank bolts should fix the problem permanently and restore the safety of the bikes. The manufacturer points out that replacing the crank bolts is a relatively simple process that can be carried out quickly by specialist dealers. Nevertheless, it is important that this replacement is carried out by specialised personnel in order to ensure correct assembly and functionality.
