All Mountain: Giant Trance Advanced 1 on test
Lightweight: The Giant Trance Advanced 1 is a successful all-mountain MTB with well-balanced riding characteristics.

Last year, the Trance was given a makeover with a new frame. Only subtle changes were made for the current model year: 150 mm instead of 140 mm fork, shorter chainstays and a longer top tube. With a frame weighing just 2343 grams (without shock), the Giant Trance scored highly in the test, although the weight advantage is somewhat relativised by the shock with reservoir. Nevertheless, the 2018 Trance is not overweight. The built-in equipment package with Sram GX Eagle and carbon wheelset is high-quality.

The Trance circulates light-footedly on its 27.5-inch wheels over our test lap without showing any signs of nervousness in the fast, rough sections. No other bike in this test achieves such a good balance of playfulness and composure as the Trance. The fork and Maestro rear suspension harmonise perfectly, the suspension could only work a little more lively, as it is a little firm despite the open compression damping. Uphill, however, the rear suspension shows the necessary sensitivity. With its low overall weight and the excellent Maxxis High Roller tyres, the Trance beats the competition in the practical evaluation.

ConclusionThe Giant Trance Advanced 1 is an all-round successful all-mountain bike with very well-balanced handling characteristics and a slim weight.
