Stereo ONE44, ONE55 and ONE77 are the hot new products with which Cube is revamping its entire model range from Trail to Enduro. The Stereo ONE55 C:62 TM 29 with 150 millimetres of travel at the rear has already been extensively scrutinised. Compared to its predecessor (Stereo 150), the suspension travel remains the same, but everything else has been thoroughly overhauled.
This is how the Cube Stereo ONE55 With a steering angle of 64 degrees, the new bike is a full 1.8 degrees slacker than its predecessor, which automatically results in a significantly longer wheelbase and smoother ride. In addition, the reach has increased by almost 20 millimetres to 471 millimetres. In order to integrate the rider even better into the bike, the bottom bracket height and therefore the centre of gravity have also been lowered.
The geometry update is effective: even on steep or fast sections, the new Stereo One55 all-mountain bike offers a high level of safety. The Rockshox suspension with the 160 Lyrik Ultimate and the Super Deluxe Ultimate shock is up to even long descents. The rear end responds very well to small bumps, but the fork has slightly more travel and delivers more counter-pressure on fast hits. 25 instead of 30 per cent SAG on the shock brings more balance to the suspension. In order not to compromise on downhill performance, Cube specifies a Maxxis Assegai front tyre in the softest rubber compound. This provides traction en masse, but noticeably restricts the range of action. The additional chain guide and bashguard equip the Cube Stereo ONE55 for enduro use.
But the new ONE55 can also benefit from its geometry update on the climbs. The seat angle has been steepened by almost one degree, which puts more pressure on the front wheel, and the overall riding position is more relaxed. With the rear shock open, the rear end bobs only slightly. The lightweight wheels are easy to accelerate. As with the top model, Cube now uses a carbon handlebar/stem unit, which is available in two different lengths depending on the frame size. All testers were immediately happy with the ergonomics of the cockpit. This is not a matter of course, because apart from the height, no adjustment is possible due to the one-piece construction.
Another innovation is in the down tube of the 2621 gram frame. As with many other manufacturers, a flap provides access to the inside. Spare parts and a tool with 24 functions, which is already integrated as standard, are therefore always to hand. The boot could be one of the reasons why the frame stiffness of 40 N/mm is low and slightly below that of its predecessor.
The new Cube Stereo ONE55 builds on the positive virtues of its predecessor and manages to combine a lot of suspension travel with a very good weight. Above all, the geometry update, the harmonious equipment and useful details make the Cube a downhill-orientated all-rounder.
