Conway is a proprietary brand of Hermann Hartje KG and is only available from specialist bicycle retailers. In addition to around 90 bicycle models in various categories, the range also includes bicycle accessories. These include non-motorised bikes as well as e-bikes; from children's bikes to full-suspension MTBs. The Conway brand was founded in 1993 and is one of the 14 bicycle brands of the family-run wholesale company Hartje.
Right from the start, it was important for Conway to maintain close contact and dialogue with professional bikers in order to remain true to its motto "By bikers for bikers". Conway was quickly able to convince the specialised trade with a good price-performance ratio. Today, Conway has become an established name in the bicycle industry.
Conway has been an own brand of the wholesale company Hermann Hartje KG since 1993 and originates from Germany. The family business can look back on over 125 years of company history. Hermann Hartje founded his company at the age of 21. It all began with the trade in bicycles, including buying and selling. As early as 1904, he introduced his first own brand to the range under the name "Weserwoge". Five years later, the "Prinzenrad" brand followed, which continued to play a special role throughout the company's history. In addition to bicycles, he expanded the business to include car parts, motorbike parts, tools and workshop equipment. The company is based in Hoya, a town in Lower Saxony. In contrast, the office is located in Weiden, Bavaria. Under the Conway brand, Hartje was also one of the first manufacturers to offer has brought e-mountain bikes onto the market - and still does. It is also known for its high quality and modern design.
Since the wholesale company was founded, a special corporate philosophy has played an important role at Hermann Hartje KG. Two of Hermann Hartje's four sons were appointed to strategically important positions in the company - as head of the car and two-wheeler retail business and head of the bicycle wholesale business. Two changes then contributed to the development of the company: Firstly, the company broke away from its original business area of trading in leather and shoemaking supplies before the Second World War, and secondly, it built up the pillars, motor vehicle and motorbike spare parts alongside the bicycle trade. The focus on the service concept in particular contributed to the company's growth. In the 1970s, the company had its own delivery service for customers. Then in 1987, the first sales office was opened outside the company headquarters. There are now 16 of these in Europe.
The production of Conway bikes, i.e. above all the assembly, takes place mainly in Germany. Components and frames are largely produced in Asia. Conway is regarded as an innovative brand that is constantly developing new products, such as the so-called "Intelligent Moving Pivot" system, in which an additional brace between Chain stay and seat stay the rear triangle connects. The independently developed suspension system is a new suspension concept for mountain bikes. A special feature is that the rear suspension adapts individually to the riding situation.
Conway e-bikes and especially e-mountainbikes are also manufactured in Germany in Hoya an der Weser and have been for several years. Conway stands for German engineering with quality and a modern design. In 2013, the production centre in Hoya was restructured so that up to 75,000 bikes could be stored. In these production facilities, additional assembly lines were built specifically for certain Conway and Victoria models to enable series production. Since 2014, there have also been service partnerships with brands such as Sram, Fox, Rockshox and many more.
Conway bikes can be purchased either in online shops or from specialist dealers.
