The International Trade Fair for Sporting Goods and Sports Fashion - the official name of ISPO in Munich - has always been the trade fair for winter sports enthusiasts. New touring skis, the hottest from the snowboard press, high-tech for the glacier piste... this year it seems that there is one big overarching theme for the majority of the 2400 or so exhibitors: SUSTAINABILITY. "Circular economy", "recycled PFC", "petroleum-free", "reusable material"... Stands without such slogans seemed almost as out of date as "Smoking pub" and "Schnitzel week!".
Every year, numerous (new) products are honoured by a jury at ISPO and other trade fairs because they are particularly innovative with regard to a specific aspect. Hall B1 ("Future Lab") at the Munich ISPO is all about innovation. There is a Sustainability Hub and, above all, all the products honoured with the ISPO Award - over 100 of them, from touring ski skins to water skis and from dumbbells to running shoes. However, the majority of them are characterised by the fact that they do not use mineral oil or recycled materials or protect the environment in some way.
There are also a few more or less new products for the bicycle industry. About the compostable pads for protectors from RE ZRO we have already reported on, also the PFC-free Goretex membrane can now be found in various productsnew here is the Gorewear running jacket. Gorewear's bib shorts with 3D-printed seat padding and resource-saving production are brand new. Although the shape and colour of the Nemo backpack is more reminiscent of the 90s, according to the jury it is completely recyclable and is made from a single material throughout. All parts can also be repaired.
So we strolled around ISPO in Munich and looked for new and exciting things that are interesting for cyclists. This year's guest country is Korea. But even without the exhibitors explicitly from Korea, there were mainly manufacturers of small but important products from Asia. Backpack buckles, shoe laces, but especially the fabrics from which our dream jackets or glasses are made, come from Asia. This was clearly evident again this year. And that's where sustainability comes in - at best. What follows is our collection of product news, without any claim to completeness.
