Handling heavy e-MTBs: What the new Pro Air Lift assembly stand can do in day-to-day workshop use

Modern e-MTBs often weigh between 24 and 28 kilograms these days, with some full-suspension models weighing even more. Anyone who has had to lift such a bike onto a traditional bike stand for servicing will be familiar with the problem: Clamping the bike in place quickly turns into a test of strength, particularly when removing suspension components, wheels or motor parts. Electric lifts do solve this problem, but they are heavy, expensive and rely on a power supply. With the new Pro Air Lift Feedback Sports is now presenting an unusual approach: a pneumatic assembly stand that lifts heavy bikes using air pressure – without the need for a battery or a power socket.

Air instead of muscle power

The Pro Air Lift is the world’s first lightweight and portable bicycle repair stand with a pneumatic lifting function. Instead of an electric motor, the system uses compressed air to extend the central lifting column. What makes it special is that a standard floor pump is all that is needed as a power source. Alternatively, electric pumps or compressors can also be used.

This eliminates one of the biggest drawbacks of conventional lift stands. Neither a mains power connection nor built-in batteries are required. At the same time, the stand remains weatherproof and can be used without any problems at the bike wash or outside in the paddock.

Load capacity of up to 45 kilograms

Feedback Sports developed the Pro Air Lift primarily with heavy bikes in mind. The stand lifts bikes weighing up to 45 kilograms or 100 pounds and thus covers virtually all current e-MTBs, e-trekking bikes and cargo bikes.

The maximum working height is 169 centimetres, which also allows extensive work on the landing gear, powertrain or cockpit to be carried out ergonomically.

Particularly interesting: the lifting process is astonishingly quick. According to the manufacturer, a compressor operating at 90 PSI takes just around three seconds to raise a 27-kilogramme bike to working height. Even with a standard floor pump, the process is said to be completed in just a few pumps.

Safe lowering via foot pedal

After servicing, the bike is not simply lowered, but is carefully bled via an integrated foot valve. This allows the mechanic to keep both hands on the bike whilst the stand lowers slowly and in a controlled manner.

Surprisingly light, despite the lift function

The ratio between load capacity and weight is particularly noteworthy. Despite its lifting mechanism, the Pro Air Lift weighs just 8.1 kilograms on the scales. When folded up, it measures just 115 centimetres in length, making it easy to transport.

It is based on the well-known aluminium tripod chassis from Feedback Sports. It also features large rubber feet, metal joints and the tried-and-tested Speed Ratchet + Spinner Knob Clamp, which is already familiar from the brand’s professional mounting stands. Another safety feature: an integrated pressure relief valve prevents the system from being accidentally pressurised beyond the permitted level.

Sustainability and reparability

Feedback Sports deliberately positions the Pro Air Lift as a durable workshop tool. All relevant spare parts are available individually, which is intended to make long-term repairs easier.

Conclusion from the editor’s perspective

Anyone who has ever held a 25-kilo e-MTB in one hand on a bike stand whilst trying to close the clamp as quickly as possible with the other hand knows just what a feat of strength that can be. What’s more, many traditional bike stands are simply no longer up to the task of supporting the weight of modern e-bikes.

With the Pro Air Lift Feedback Sports offers a clever solution to both problems. The pneumatic lifting mechanism significantly reduces the effort required and, with a load capacity of 45 kilos, offers ample reserve capacity even for cargo bikes. At the same time, the stand remains surprisingly light and portable.

However, the Pro Air Lift is not a tyre changer for the occasional DIYer, but rather a tool for ambitious home mechanics or garages. The price also sets a clear limit. Around 725 euros is a lot of money for a portable tyre changer. Nevertheless, anyone who regularly services heavy bikes is likely to quickly come to appreciate the pneumatic lifting function.
