Under the name "PortiloPlug&Drive", Westfalia is presenting a system specially designed for vehicles without a towbar, which is intended to enable installation on any vehicle. The advantage: the new system is said to be significantly cheaper than a comparable detachable towbar with bicycle carrier.

The highlight is that the carrier mount is hidden directly in the rear bumper. If the carrier is not fitted, the opening disappears behind the folding licence plate holder.

The bike carrier holds two bikes, or three with an optional adapter, and has a total payload of 60 kilograms. Convenient: the electrical connection is made directly during installation, eliminating the need for a plug. There are also new extension modules available as accessories, such as ski/snowboard holders, which should also make the system interesting for winter sports enthusiasts.

The system is available immediately, but initially only for the VW Scirocco at a price of 899 euros. Other models are to follow in the summer. In principle, the system should then be able to be used on virtually any vehicle.

Sebastian Brust was born in 1979 and was originally socialised on his grandmother's folding bike, but has mainly been riding studded tyres since his fifth birthday. Loves all kinds of bikes - and merging with nature. Believes that disc brakes are much safer today than they were 15 years ago and thinks he has helped with his brake and pad tests. However, the trained vehicle technology engineer very much regrets that the bicycle industry is orientating itself on what he considers to be the wrong ideals of the car industry. At BIKE, he corrects, produces and organises digital content on the website.
