Car MTB carrier: 15 models for the rear and roof
Anyone going on holiday with their family needs either a van or a proper bike rack. We have tested 15 systems and show you which ones are safe and practical.

You want to go on holiday with the whole family. But where to put the beloved bikes? In the boot? It's already bursting at the seams. Leave them at home? That's probably not even an option. So put them on the roof or on the towbar.

Together with Gute Fahrt and our colleagues from TOUR magazine, we carried out the moose test at an airfield near Offenburg. We had a total of ten bike carriers for coupling mounting and five models for mounting on the vehicle roof in our luggage. We wanted to find out how safe the systems are in extreme situations.

You can find these models in the test

  • The Bici 3000 roof rack from Fabbri costs 76.50 euros
  • The Paulchen clutch loader model was tested in the Comfort version and costs 494 euros
  • The model tested by Westfalia is called the BC 60 and is the successor to the Portilo
