With the reader campaign "Make a wish!" we fulfil the greatest wishes of BIKE readers. Part 10: a meeting with a trial legend Hans "No Way" Rey in California. Watch the video of Malte's visit here:
He didn't race like John Tomac and co. Hans Rey (54) is the biggest rock star on the mountain bike scene. Even the most hardened World Cup downhill riders' blood ran cold when the German with the shaggy hair tied into a ponytail performed his stunts. Because motorbike trials were too expensive, Hans Rey began practising on bicycles in his early youth. When the sport of mountain biking boomed in the early nineties, Rey, now world trial champion, was catapulted to the status of a megastar. No one else could do what he did on his bike. Rey performed in football stadiums, had an appearance in the US series Pacific Blue and starred in Willy Bogner's action thriller Fire and Ice. After his trials career, Rey dedicated himself to the development of touristic MTB concepts. He is regarded as a co-founder of the flow trail boom and now earns his money as a brand ambassador. Hans Rey is a member of the MTB Hall of Fame and lives with his wife Carmen in Laguna Beach, California. His ponytail hangs framed by his sponsor GT.
