It is very important to drink enough during strenuous activities such as cycling or hiking, and not just in the height of summer. Research shows that athletes who use a hydration bladder instead of a water bottle tend to drink more regularly and more often. This helps to avoid loss of performance due to a lack of fluids. However, it is also important to disassemble the hydration bladder after use, clean it thoroughly and dry it to prevent bacterial and fungal growth.
The Fidlock Hermetic Hydration BladderThe - similar to well-known competitors such as Camelbak or Source - is made of tasteless polyurethane without bisphenol A and is available in sizes of 1.5 or 2.5 litres. It fits into most standard cycling and hiking rucksacks with a pre-installed hydration system. The hydration bladder is securely closed with magnets and has an additional closure without an extra lid or clamping bar. The tube with coverable drinking valve is easy to attach and can be disassembled into two parts for cleaning.
The drinking system has proven itself in practice. It is easy to use: insert the tube into the bladder until it clicks into place, pull the magnetic fastener apart and fill with water (only pure water, no energy drinks or fruit juices). The filled bladder is then inserted into the corresponding compartment of the rucksack.
We successfully tested it on a Deuter and an Osprey rucksack. The drinking tube may be too long for smaller bikers. However, this can be shortened if necessary. To get water out of the valve, you have to suck hard on it. From time to time the valve dripped a little after use. The water from the bladder also had no aftertaste. After use, the hose and valve should be cleaned under clear water and dried.
Leakage safety is guaranteed by three self-closing rows of magnets and an additional closure that does not require an extra lid or clamping bar. An easy-to-attach tube with a coverable drinking valve is also included, which can be intuitively disassembled into two parts for cleaning.
A practical hydration bladder that is very easy to use and clean.
