Energy bars should provide energy during a bike tour and taste good at the same time. We tested five of the latest bars together with a nutrition expert.

Here you can find the evaluation of the five energy bars tested by BIKE:

On sport: 50 gram - 1,69 Euro

AM Sport advertises its Oat Flapjack as a source of carbohydrates. However, it could offer more of that. Although it is reasonably natural, it does not contain any additives such as humectants or binding agents. The high fat content and the chocolate glaze, which is prone to melting, are also somewhat negative. The flavour is better - chocolatey.

Clifbar: 68 gram - 1,99 Euro

Clifbar is the number 1 in the USA and a household name here too. The Oatmeal Raisin Walnut contains lots of natural ingredients, has a relatively low fat content and provides plenty of carbohydrates. It is the bar in the test that is best suited for tours, says the expert. The bar also scored highly in terms of flavour. The testers noted: natural, tasty, nutty.

Corny: 40 gram - 0,56 Euro

How do you like this article?

Corny's new Crunch Oats & Honey is the cheapest in the test field. It is not quite as natural as the packaging suggests. Why? Sugar has been added here. However, the experts were impressed by the different carbohydrates and vitamin B1. The Corny is therefore suitable as a sports bar. Notes on the flavour: very dry, biscuit-like, sweet.

Full of oats: 65 grammes - from 1.69 euros

The Hafervoll is new to the e-bar business and is the most natural in the test field. It has no added sugar or flavourings. It also contains few ingredients, which is a good thing. However, it is hardly suitable as a sports bar, says the expert. Why? Too high a fat content, too few carbohydrates and it crumbles terribly when snacked on. The flavour: a bit like fruit bread.

PowerBar: 40 gram - 1,60 Euro

Powerbar's new Natural Protein meets the spirit of the times. It is vegan and lactose-free - despite its high protein content (30 %). This and the low carbohydrate content make it a consistent recovery bar. It is not quite as natural as Hafervoll and Clifbar - too many added ingredients! The flavour: very sweet, fruity, somewhat artificial.

Powerbar Iso Active

During exercise, the body primarily needs fluids. It's good if electrolytes such as sodium, chloride, potassium, magnesium and calcium are added. Powerbar Isoactive provides all of these. 600 grams, price 9.95 euros. www.powerbar.eu
