The saddle is a key factor in having fun on the bike. It is therefore all the more surprising that many cyclists simply put up with sitting problems instead of trying to eliminate their cause.

Anyone looking for their personal feel-good saddle should consider three things, advises Augsburg orthopaedist and sports physician Dr Claus Oehler: "The saddle must suit the preferred sitting position, the amount of time spent on the bike and the specific anatomy of the cyclist."

However, before buying a new saddle, which can be expensive, it is definitely worth trying out the fine adjustment options of your own saddle first. If these measures do not bring any improvement, it is advisable to buy a new saddle. The best choice of padding depends on how the bike is used: the longer the distances, the firmer the saddle should be.
