Update: Heart rate measurement in Strava app back
Heart rate measurement directly in the Strava app is now possible again. Bluetooth sensors can be paired again when recording - even in the free version.

Review: Since October 2019, Bluetooth and ANT+ sensors could no longer be paired directly with the Strava smartphone app. The reason given at the time was that support for Bluetooth devices led to millions of crashes during recording, regardless of whether a sensor was connected or not. Strava has now fixed this problem. Since 18 November 2020, heart rate measurement with paired Bluetooth sensors has been possible again in the app.

This means that heart rate belts, fitness trackers or smartwatches that transmit the heart rate via Bluetooth can now be paired directly with the app while recording an activity. If you have your smartphone mounted on the handlebars, you can track your heart rate in real time during training, even without a watch or bike computer.

The best thing about this function is that the reintroduced heart rate measurement in the app is not part of the paid version, but is available to all Strava users.

This is how it works: Simply pair a Bluetooth sensor in the recording settings and the heart rate will also be recorded.Photo: Strava This is how it works: Simply pair a Bluetooth sensor in the recording settings and the heart rate will also be recorded. We tried out the function with a Wahoo heart rate belt. Pairing was quick and the recording was stable.Photo: Stefan Loibl We tried out the function with a Wahoo heart rate belt.
