Autumn is sending out unmistakable signs these days. It’s getting dark earlier, lunch breaks outdoors are starting to feel a bit chilly, and I’m not exactly looking forward to layering up – at least, not me. The indoor cycling app Rouvy has introduced a few new features for the winter season: Zwift hardware is now compatible with the app, new routes from Morocco to Patagonia have been added to the route library, and pros such as Wout van Aert are inviting users to join them for group rides.
Editorial assessment
Rouvy is for anyone who wants to experience real routes, whether as preparation for a race such as the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon, for holiday inspiration, or simply because an animated fantasy world isn’t what gets you out on your bike at six in the morning. The pricing structure, particularly with the Duo and group subscriptions, is attractive, and you can sign up straight away with a group of friends – perfect for group rides too, which are now more social than ever thanks to the In-Ride Chat feature introduced earlier this year.
Rouvy focuses on real-world experiences: real routes, real video footage, real climbs. This is the key difference compared to Zwift, which relies predominantly on fantasy worlds with a high degree of gamification. There was one area where users had previously noted that Rouvy needed to catch up: its social features and gamification lagged behind Zwift. That’s exactly where this update comes in. The compatibility with Zwift hardware, in particular, is a clever move. Anyone who has already invested in Zwift hardware can now use it with Rouvy as well.

The changes in detail
Zwift hardware compatibility
Trainers with a pre-installed Zwift Cog and Click now work seamlessly with Rouvy, including virtual shifting and handlebar controls. The Zwift Ride can be used as a permanent indoor setup for Rouvy. The compatible hardware is available in the new Rouvy eShop.
Zwift Ride Rouvy Edition
From 9 September, Rouvy will be offering a Zwift Ride Rouvy Edition in its own online shop. Included in the package: a set of Rouvy stickers, which riders can use to customise their setup to reflect their personal cycling goals.
TrainerRoad integration
TrainerRoad users can now complete their structured workouts on real Rouvy routes. Targeted training meets real-world climbs and route profiles.
New routes
Moroccan desert roads, India’s highest tarmac roads and the vast expanses of Patagonia: Rouvy is introducing new routes with higher image quality. A new ‘Enhanced’ tag identifies routes that have been visually upgraded. Another new feature is the ‘Ride Later’ function, which allows users to save routes for later.
Community and Pro Rides
Clubs, communities and in-ride chat were introduced this summer. In the first two months, users have already set up 850 clubs and 130 communities. Club Challenges will follow in the autumn. From October, Rouvy users will also be able to join Pro Group Rides with Wout van Aert, Victor Campenaerts and Mads Pedersen.
