Reader question: Prostate problem
"I have been suffering from recurring prostatitis for about a year. Since the last inflammation, I can no longer sit on a saddle. My perineum and my whole abdomen hurt. My urologist doesn't take it too seriously and says I should look for another sport. Do you have any better advice?"

Answer from urologist Dr Stefan Staudte
"Of course, if you have such symptoms, you must first undergo a thorough urological examination to rule out acute (bacterial) prostate inflammation (prostatitis). If this is the case, biking would actually be prohibited. If there is no acute or bacterial inflammation, but rather a (chronic) irritation syndrome, the affected person should take a break from riding for about four weeks and take the appropriate medication during this time. After that, you should feel your way back to your usual load with a saddle that completely avoids the perineal area."
