Huawei’s new fitness smartwatches inherit the power meter functions of the Watch GT 6 Pro. The square design remains the same, whilst the display and battery get bigger. The Fit 5 Pro Weighs 30.4 grams without the strap; the Fit 5 weighs 27 grams. Both models are available in several colour options with fluoroelastomer or nylon straps.
The the cheaper Fit 5 is available in silver, green, purple, white and black. The The Fit 5 Pro is available in black, white and orange. The white Pro model features a ceramic oxide coating for added durability. Pricing remains the same across all colour variants.
The most important new feature for cyclists: both watches measure power and cadence virtually – in other words, without an external power metre on the bike. Huawei has adopted this feature from the Watch GT 6 Pro and is further developing it. This makes the Fit 5 series only the company’s second smartwatch range to feature this technology.
When starting a cycling workout, users first select their bike type: mountain bike, road bike or city bike. The watch then calculates virtual power output and cadence in real time. In addition, Huawei offers group training via the Health app.
The connected smartphone acts as a fully-fledged cycle computer. The Health app displays routes, distance and speed. Rides can be imported in advance and shared directly via Strava or Komoot after the ride.
Sunflower technology utilises 3D convergent positioning by combining multiple data sources. Both smartwatches support GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and BeiDou on L1 and L5. During testing in Berlin, location detection was fast and reliable. The recorded routes showed no significant anomalies.
Over 100 sports can be tracked. The Fit 5 series is Huawei’s second smartwatch to feature a virtual power meter. Its functions include virtual power, virtual cadence and group training via the app. When starting a cycling session, you can select your bike type: mountain bike, road bike or city bike.
Via the Health app, the smartphone acts as a cycle computer, displaying the route, distance and speed. Routes can be imported before setting off. Activities can be shared via Strava or Komoot.
The Fit 5 Pro features a new 1.92-inch AMOLED display, which is significantly brighter than the display on the previous model. The variable refresh rate automatically adjusts between 1 and 60 Hz: in Always-On mode, the rate drops to 1 Hz, thereby conserving battery life. The display bezels are more symmetrical and narrower. Protection is provided by curved 2.5D sapphire glass.
The more affordable Fit 5 retains its 1.82-inch display, but also boasts improved brightness. Instead of sapphire glass, it uses aluminosilicate glass.
Both models share a 471 mAh battery – an 18 per cent increase on the 400 mAh battery in the previous generation. According to the manufacturer, the Fit 5 Pro lasts for more than four days with the Always-On Display activated and health features running. The Fit 5 offers four to four-and-a-half days’ battery life.
The magnetic charging pad fully charges the Fit 5 Pro in 60 minutes. The Fit 5 takes over 1.5 hours. Both smartwatches charge wirelessly. They do not have an eSIM or Wi-Fi for standalone operation. Software updates can be transferred via a direct Wi-Fi connection between the smartphone and the smartwatch.
Both smartwatches measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation using an improved PPG sensor with six LEDs and six photodiodes. They also detect pulse wave arrhythmia and feature fall detection. The Fit 5 Pro goes a step further: it measures arterial stiffness, performs an ECG and is certified to EN13319 for free diving to a depth of 40 metres. An integrated depth sensor makes this certification possible. The Fit 5 rounds off the package with a skin temperature sensor for cycle tracking.
30 guided exercises featuring an animated panda encourage physical activity in everyday life. The watch detects when you’re not moving enough and alerts you. A special watch face provides real-time feedback and rewards.
When trail running, the Fit 5 Pro displays estimated distances to checkpoints and the finish line. An elevation profile graph and post-run data analysis round off the features. The Running Ability Index takes sections of incline into account when calculating performance.
The Fit 5 Pro features a Driving Range Mode for golf, with real-time monitoring of the backswing, downswing, tempo and speed. The Golf Course Mode provides access to over 17,000 courses with vector maps. The map rotates automatically depending on the direction you’re facing.
Goodshot for badminton, Tennix for tennis, PickleX for pickleball and KeepStrong for strength training are integrated. For tennis, pickleball and badminton, data on forehands, backhands and shot sequences is recorded.
Curve Pay enables contactless payments via NFC on both models. The app must be installed via the Huawei AppGallery. In the settings, under ‘More Connections’ and ‘NFC’, select Curve Pay instead of Wallet. Configuration is carried out via the smartphone app; it is not possible to set it up using the smartwatch alone.
Both models run HarmonyOS 6.1 and support Bluetooth 5.2. The microphone and speaker enable Bluetooth calls. There is no direct connection to Bosch e-bikes for heart rate transmission.
