Fitting experts: Perfect wheel adjustment for everyone
Pain is part of mountain biking? Wrong. Bike-fitting gurus analyse and remedy complaints in the back, buttocks, fingers and knees.

Bike fitting experts promise: less pain and more performance. Instead of investing in new carbon fibre parts, amateur racers and touring riders should invest 200 euros to get one step closer to their perfect riding position. To make this work, bike fitters address the problems, localise them and try to make the rider merge with the bike. You can find the entire article from BIKE 12/2014 as a PDF download below.

This is what a professional bike fitting looks like:

  1. Physical requirements The expert gets an idea of the patient's measurements, complaints, biomechanical conditions and orthopaedic misalignments (e.g. pelvic obliquity or bowed splayfoot).
  2. Muscular status quo The bike fitter then analyses shortened muscles, imbalances and restrictions in mobility (e.g. shortened back of the thigh).
  3. Video analysis The ride on the roller is filmed from behind and from the side. In slow motion, you can later see, for example, tilting movements of the hips, rotations of the knees and foot misalignments in certain pedalling positions.
  4. Pressure measurement A force measuring sole measures the pressure distribution of the feet in the shoe. Ideally, the pressure peaks on the inside of the ball of the foot should be the same on both sides.
  5. Evaluation/customisation Based on the data collected, the cleat position, saddle height, saddle angle and seat position are adjusted and, if necessary, parts such as stems, handlebars or saddles are replaced.
