In keeping with the annual New Year's resolution to do more sport, American tech manufacturer Garmin is launching new equipment for upcoming workouts. The HRM-Fit heart rate monitor is specifically designed to accompany women during their training sessions. Like the unisex chest strap, the new device measures various fitness data. As before, this data can then be conveniently accessed via the compatible smartwatch or smartphone. The highlight, however, is that it is not actually a chest strap!
The chest strap should be easy to attach to the sports bra, making it very comfortable to wear. This means that an additional strap to the underwear does not interfere with the wearer's activities. Thanks to the clip design developed for the chest strap, the Garmin HRM-Fit can be worn with sports bras with medium and strong support. The functionality of the "chest strap" - which is not a chest strap - is similar to that of a smartwatch in that it measures many classic training data such as heart rate, pace and distance.
Among other things, the Garmin HRM-Fit running efficiency values can be measured, such as stride length, ground contact time or vertical movement. Admittedly, these values have little to do with cycling, but they show that the chest strap tracks more than just the usual training data. And the odd running session can also be a good change for cyclists to improve their endurance performance.
The measured values are transmitted to compatible Garmin smartwatches, fitness devices, Edge bike computers or smartphone apps. If the smartwatch is not at hand, the chest strap also collects and stores the data and transmits it the next time it is paired.
You should be able to use the Garmin HRM-Fit chest strap for up to one year without intermediate charging. The manufacturer assumes that the chest strap will be used for one hour a day. We have not yet been able to verify this value - but we will be following up with a test soon.
