2. SET INTERMEDIATE GOALS
If you have a big goal in mind, the best way to achieve it is in many small intermediate stages. Do you want to lose a total of thirty kilos? Then think about how much you want to weigh in three weeks. Do you want to cycle a hundred kilometres in one day for the first time? Feel your way slowly. Only think about the final finishing line, don't let stagnation discourage you too quickly.
3. VISUALISE SUCCESSES
How many kilometres have you cycled in the past month? How often did you cycle to work in the last six months? Visualise your training successes! Whether you record your home trainer sessions in a notepad or use a fitness tracker is a matter of taste. The important thing is that you regularly visualise what you have already achieved.
4. REWARDS
Whether it's a new cycling jersey or a beer after training: small rewards can boost your motivation. Especially if you otherwise pay strict attention to your diet or are rather frugal with new clothes, rewards linked to training can work wonders. Of course, the rewards should not go beyond a certain limit.
5. WATCH-OFF
If the training is too monotonous, it becomes difficult to keep going. If you cycle the same route several times a week, you will eventually get bored and lose motivation. Incorporate small variations into the cycle route or plan a trip to an undiscovered region for the next free weekend. Trying out a new sport can also be motivating!
6. WORKING WITH IMAGES
Do you want to get fitter because you are planning a longer cycle tour? Hang a motivating picture from the region next to your bike or sports bag. If you remember your destination before training, you will automatically be more motivated to get there. Photos of past cycling experiences can also be inspiring.
7. USE MUSIC
Many professional athletes have long known that music is an absolute motivation booster. Take advantage of this legal performance booster and put on your favourite playlist while cycling. Ideally, the music you choose will put you in a good mood and the rhythm will match your cadence. You will see: With music, you can keep going even when the going gets tough.
