6 roller trainers in comparison
Six model categories - everyone will find the right one here: We have tested various roller trainers in practice.

Here you can find reviews of the roller trainers from CycleOps, Elite, Kickr, Kurt Kinetic and Taxc:

The classic

Long-term winner Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå relies on this type of wheel. No other model offers a more realistic ride. It also trains coordination. Hard intervals are not suitable on this system as the braking power is usually too low.

CONCLUSIONPerfect for warming up, quickly ready for use. Very loud when studded tyres are used.

The uncomplicated one

Direct drive rollers, where the chain is placed over an extra cassette, offer a good ride and are quiet. Without additional software, these rollers are among the most uncomplicated products. Disadvantage: the change from normal to thru axles.

CONCLUSIONWith very good braking resistance, this type of castor is the best choice if an additional watt system is used.

Info Elite Turbo Muin, price around 399 euros

The app role

The classic in a new guise. The power is transmitted to the roller via an app or a PC programme. The disadvantage, as with almost all computer-based braking systems, is the inaccurate watt display, which fluctuates during training. A power socket is also required. Advantage: The training can be uploaded immediately.

Carefree

Clamp the bike and get started. Classic roller trainers are considered uncomplicated and low-maintenance. Important: use a road bike tyre. Depending on the model, the devices can be connected to apps that display (calculate) the power output.

CONCLUSION: affordable, very robust wheels that can be used with almost all bikes.

High-tech training

The best of all worlds: Direct drive, controlled training programmes and virtual worlds. These high-priced devices leave nothing to be desired. Disadvantage: the more technology there is, the more annoying the installation and connection search can become. In addition, individual programmes have to be written first. Power is also required.

CONCLUSIONIdeal for long workouts to escape boredom.

The handbrake

Instead of using brake fluids, which generate roller resistance with increasing rotation, these rollers can demand more leg power via a lever. This allows the power to be changed quickly. Disadvantage: high tyre wear.

CONCLUSIONThe most affordable products that are perfect for short workouts or warm-ups.
