Length runs! Rarely has the worn-out saying been more appropriate than with Trek's budget hardtail. The longest main frame in the test field, long chainstays, the red Bolide rides like it's on rails.

No matter whether you're going uphill or downhill. This provides safety first and foremost: on steep steps, in bumpy trail passages and on steep ramps. The Trek takes a lot of work off the rider's shoulders and smooths out many a heartache. On climbs, the front wheel literally sticks to the ground, hardly any other bike climbs so easily. The wide 29er tyres also contribute to this, providing an incredible amount of traction. Downhill, this provides a small increase in comfort and also a lot of grip. The brakes are the limiting factor on downhills and could do with more bite and larger discs, especially on long descents. Weak points? Of course, the length also has a downside. Comfort riders might struggle with the stretched seating position and trail enthusiasts might miss out on some of the playfulness. The front wheel is almost impossible to get airborne on edges.

Conclusion: Strong geometry that works on forest road tours as well as tough trail use. Climbs superbly and gives confidence downhill - test winner!

Trek proves that battery integration can be successful even without Bosch's new Powertube (heavier and longer). The conventional 500 Wh power pack is elegantly integrated into the down tube. Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
