With its new edition of the Mythique trail bike, British bike manufacturer Vitus presents four exciting trail bike models at a fair price. The Mythique V3 is available in a price range from 1799 to 2799 euros and in versions with 27.5-inch and 29-inch wheels. Vitus has made a number of innovations to its affordable aluminium trail bike for 2023, but the range of use and the 130 and 140 millimetres of suspension travel have remained the same as its predecessor.
It's hard to forget your first time on the trail. When it grabs you, it really grabs you. The Vitus Mythique V3 is therefore not only a good introduction to mountain biking on narrow paths and trails, but also suitable for advanced riders.
Inspired by the two award-winning Vitus mountain bike models Escarpe and Vitus Sommet the new version of the Mythique comes with a frame that doesn't have to hide from them. The engineers are said to have further improved the uphill handling for the upcoming version by optimising the Frame geometry have changed: On the Vitus mountain bike, you sit more centrally above the bottom bracket and the handlebars are closer to the rider.
In direct comparison with its predecessor, it is noticeable that the head tube of the new Mythique V3 is 0.5 degrees slacker (65.5 instead of 66 degrees). This ensures better control of the bike on different terrain, especially when the descents become steeper and the speed increases. The seat tube has also been adapted accordingly to make it easier to master climbs. The seat angle is 1.5 degrees steeper (77.5 instead of 76 degrees) with a wheel size of 29 inches. The modified reach enables a more upright position on the climbs. Further work has also been done on the downhill. Vario seat posts can now be completely lowered into the seat tube of the new Vitus Mythique - depending on the frame size.
Further updates include the Trunnion shock mount and the Sram UDH derailleur hanger. The cables have been routed externally for easy maintenance. In addition, similar hardware is used as on the expensive Vitus MTB models Escarpe and Sommet.
Anti-rise refers to how much the suspension can compress or rebound when braking. This value is then given as a percentage from zero to 100. Compared to its predecessor, the Vitus Mythique V3 has five per cent better anti-rise values and therefore ensures a smoother ride, as it has less of a tendency to "spring" under heavy braking. The handling remains stable and the suspension is still responsive.
Anti-Squat counteracts the energy-sapping compression during pedalling and helps to improve the acceleration and climbing performance of a bike. The new Vitus Mythique V3 has almost 100 per cent anti-squat in first gear - it runs stably on extreme inclines and does not bob when pedalling. However, the value drops to 80 per cent in higher gears so that there is enough traction on the rear wheel.
With all its improvements, Vitus presents the Mythique V3, an innovative successor to its successful model, which is strong on different terrains and makes you want to hit the next trail - also thanks to the revised frame geometry. The reasonably priced trail bike is available from just 1799 euros in the 27.5-inch wheel version. It is available in four different models. With the exception of the most expensive Mythique 29 AMP, all are available with 27.5 or 29-inch wheels. You will soon be able to read in BIKE how the new, affordable Vitus trail bike performs in practice. We put the Vitus Mythique VRX in the 29-inch wheel version through its paces.
All models are now available online via the manufacturer's website or other platforms. Vitus has not yet provided any information on the weights.
