Trek Fuel EX: Versatile all-rounder with a boot
With the new Fuel EX, Trek is making its bestseller even more versatile for 2020 and is focussing on well thought-out details and modern geometry for the trail bike.

How do you make a bestseller even better?

The Fuel EX has always been the "cash cow" in the Trek MTB line-up and appealed to the largest mass of customers. But how do you make a bestseller even better? More versatile, more trail-ready and available in even more sizes is the answer in the case of the new Fuel EX. To achieve this, the suspension travel has been minimally adjusted. All models of the new trail bike come with a 140-millimetre fork and a rear triangle with 130 millimetres of travel instead of the previous 130. Nothing has changed at the rear. With 2.6 mm tyres, all Trek Fuel EX models 2020 come with plenty of downhill potential.

Customisation of the geometry

In addition, the geometry has been fundamentally adapted in line with the ongoing longer and slacker trend. The 29er Fuel EX now has a head angle of 66-66.5 degrees, a reach of 470-475 millimetres in size L and 437 mm chainstays. The seat angle has also been steepened to 75 degrees for an optimised climbing position.

Fine details on the new Fuel EX

Although utilising the storage space in the down tube is not really a new idea, Trek customers will be pleased to have a place to store small items. A spare inner tube, mini tool or rain jacket can be stored in the down tube after opening a flap under the bottle cage. Incidentally, the integrated luggage compartment is also used on Trek's carbon road bike models.

Even more frame sizes for the Fuel EX

Smaller riders can look forward to the additional XS frame size. This gives the customer the choice of a total of six different frame sizes. Different wheel sizes are used depending on the frame size. Bikes from size M are equipped with 29-inch wheels. XS frames are supplied with 27.5-inch wheels, which offer smaller riders better control and a lower standover height. Bikers who need a size S frame can even choose between 27.5 or 29-inch wheels.
